Danesia Williamson

DANESIA WILLIAMSON, Mount Miguel
Williamson, a sophomore guard, shot 60 percent from the floor en route to a team-best 23 points, leading the Matadors to the CIF Division III sectional crown over Cathedral Catholic.More than half of her points came on transition baskets, as Mount Miguel gained the top seed in the South Regional to the CIF State Championships.

ZACH KAUL, Foothills Christian
Kaul, a sophomore guard, poured home 17 points, including a trio of 3-point shots, helping the top-seeded Knights secure the CIF Division V sectional title over Calvin Christian. Kaul now owns an East County best 100 triples this season.

WEEK 13
Feb. 19-24

Brittany Williams

BRITTANY WILLIAMS, Helix
Williams logged a rare quadruple-double, collecting 20 points, 14 rebounds, 12 assists and 10 steals in dominating the second half to allow the second-seeded Highlanders (21-7) to pull away and trounce La Costa Canyon, 69-51, in the opening round of the CIF Division I playoffs. Three nights later, Williams, the Grossmont South League scoring champion, added 23 points, 8 steals and 7 boards to help bounce Escondido, 58-49, to gain a Final Four berth for the Scotties.

BRANDON FOUNTAIN, Helix
Fountain displayed his expertise on defense by shutting down one of Otay Ranch's top scorers, then posted his own set of 15 points to lead the Highlanders to the Final Four in the CIF Division I playoffs. Earlier in the week, Fountain connected on 5-of-7 floor shots for 10 points and hauled in 10 rebounds in a first-round rout of Chula Vista.

Feb. 12-17

Ashley Duffy

ASHLEY DUFFY, El Capitan
Duffy powered the Vaqueros to a pair of narrow Grossmont North League victories, nipping Santana in overtime, then West Hills by a bucket. Against the Sultans, she poured home a career-high 33 points, including a pair of last-second foul shots to force the extra session, then all seven of El Cap's points in overtime to forge the victory. Three days later against the Wolf Pack, she added 24 points, including the game-winning 3-point shot with seven seconds remaining. The center also posted nine rebounds and seven steals.

JAMAR RANSOME, Monte Vista
Ransome paced the Monarchs to a pair of Grossmont South League triumphs, clinching second place behind No. 1 rated Helix. Ransome outdueled Mount Miguel by scoring 21 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, then topped Granite Hills by doing even better, posting 29 points and 20 boards.

Feb. 5-10

Therese Riedel

THERESE RIEDEL, Grossmont
Reidel, a senior center, helped the Foothillers garner their first-ever Grossmont North League title, and the school's first league crown of any kind in more than a decade with a pair of triumphs last week. Riedel collected 14 points and 20 rebounds in a 69-37 whipping of Santana, then followed up by delivering 16 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks to overcome the absence of East County scoring leader La'Kenya Simon-West due to injury.

JEBARI ROBINSON, Steele Canyon
Robinson ignored all the distractions by registering back-to-back career-high scoring efforts to help leap the Cougars two positions in the standings to catch Monte Vista for a share of second place in the Grossmont South League. Robinson scored 20 points in a 53-46 victory over Granite Hills, then poured home 21 points in a 61-57 overtime deivision over the Monarchs.

SARAH SEYMOUR, Christian
Seymour, a senior forward, paced the Patriots to victories over Clairemont and Coronado, moving Christian within one game of the Central League lead. Seymour scored 19 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to overpower the Chieftains, then did most of her hard work on defense to sink the Islanders, collecting nine rebounds and blocking six shots in a 1-point triumph.

DAVID JEFFERSON, Helix
Jefferson led the Highlanders past their closest Grossmont South League rival to all-but-mathematically clinch the school's first championship since 2004. In a 72-49 pasting of host Monte Vista, Jefferson collected game-highs of 26 points, 14 rebounds and six blocked shots. Earlier in the week, the senior center helped whip El Capitan with 20 points, nine boards, five steals, three assists and a pair of blocks.

WEEK 9

La'Kenya Simon-West

LA'KENYA SIMON-WEST, Grossmont
Simon-West, the East County scoring leader, was a bit extra special over the weekend. In an important CIF Division II contest against Montgomery, the senior poured home 41 points to lead the Foothillers to a 65-59 win. The effort was two points shy of her season best, as Simon-West now owns a 26.5 scoring average for the 18-5 Hillers.

PETER L. GILSON, West Hills
Gilson, a senior forward, is the reason the Wolf Pack is off to a 4-0 start in Grossmont North League play. Included was a 24-point effort to defeat El Capitan this past week. Gilson made 8-of-13 shots and grabbed 12 rebounds (8 offensive boards) ina 69-41 victory. He ranks third in the GNL in scoring (17.3 avg.) and first in the enitre East County in field goal shooting (.582).
