EL CAJON (5-27-08) -- San Diego Christian College announced the signing of Cuyamaca College standout ALLISON MERCER, said Hawks women's basketball coach KELSEY DILLON.

Mercer, who played four seasons of varsity basketball at Castle Park High in Chula Vista, was a three-time All-South Bay League selection.

Mercer then became, arguably, one of the top players to come out of Cuyamaca, earning an All-Pacific Coast Conference berth after averaging 17.8 points per contest during her sophomore season playing at both guard spots and small forward. She also managed to accrue 10 double-doubles and a triple-double for the Coyotes last season.

“We are happy to have another addition to the Lady Hawks program,” said Dillon. “Allison is a talented player with a lot of potential that will come in and help increase the level of competition on our team. She has a good attitude and gets along well with the team already. We are excited to see how Allison can flourish in the GSAC and help to give our program a boost.”

EL CAJON (5-22-08) -- San Diego Christian College basketball coach JASON SMITH announced the signing of eight new players for the 2008-09 season. Included are five listed at 6-foot-6 or taller, making the next edition of the Hawks perhaps the biggest in school history.

"I am excited about the group of guys we got;" said Smith. "They might not be the very, very best talent, but they are all solid players who will work hard and play for each other."

EL CAJON (6-14-08) -- Stability and talent go against the most difficult schedule in school history as San Diego Christian College prepares for its 2008 women's volleyball season.

“San Diego Christian College used to be on the national map,” said second-year head coach ED GARRETT. “It’s time we got back there and this year’s team has a great shot.”

The Hawks, already climbing a wall that is the powerful Golden State Athletic Conference, finds half of their 40-match slate composed of teams ranked in the national Top 25 during the 2007 season.

Garrett brings stability in the coaching ranks, which has paid off on the recruiting front, with the influx of new talent joining five returning starters.

Janke honored by GSAC

AZUSA (5-19-08) -- San Diego Christian College starting pitcher LANCE JANKE was honored by the Golden State Athletic Conference as one of five pitchers selected to the All-GSAC team. Janke, a transfer from Grossmont College, was the lone member of the Hawks selected by conference coaches to the 19-member squad.

Janke, despite a 5-6 overall record, was recognized by the coaches, for his power and consistentancy, ranking among the GSAC leaders with a 3.20 earned-run average and finishing fifth among the 10 schools with 79 strikeouts over 84 1/3 innings of work.

The 6-foot-1 right-hander prepped at University City High, then became one of four Griffins to join SDCC when the school fielded its first baseball team for the 2007 season.
