Baseball
Tip: Baseball Tip Catching is an integral part of all
Little League teams. Wild pitches and pass balls happen in almost every game,
and coaches should create drills during practice to review the essentials of the
past ball and/or wild pitch. In this drill, have a player become a base runner
at third base. The pitcher is on the mound and the catcher is in his regular catching
stance. The coach plants a ball someplace behind the catcher, without him knowing
where. On the Go command, the base runner runs home while the catcher
searches for the ball. Remember, the pitcher should cover home on this play. When
the catcher finds the ball, he turns, flips it to the pitcher covering, and he
tags the base runner. This is a great drill simulating game like conditions and
practice for both the pitcher & catcher. This drill and more like it are
addressed in Drills & Techniques For Catchers video. Click

Basketball Tip:
Basketball Tip Many times players taking a basic lay up will bring the ball
down below their chest as they go in for the shot. This technique is incorrect.
Young players who are learning and practicing lay ups should learn to keep the
ball above their stomach and almost at their chest once they stop their dribble
and go in for the shot. This drill and more like it are addressed in 48
Championship Basketball Drills video. Click the link to see an instant
one minute clip. CLICK HERE.
Soccer Tip:
Soccer Tip Goalies in soccer should learn both the one-fisted box and two-fisted
box when saving an uncatchable ball. These two techniques are great for when the
goalie is not in a position to catch a ball cleanly and knocking the ball away
is a more viable option. The two-fisted box is when the goalie clasps his hands
together, and with his shoulders square to the ball, knocks it away from the goal.
The one-fisted box, performed with one hand, is done when the goalie is not in
a balanced position and might not be facing the direction the ball is coming from.

drill and more like it are addressed in 34 Soccer Goalie Drills

Fun Sports Facts: Babe
Ruth wore a cabbage leaf under his cap while playing baseball, and he used to
changed it every two innings. The home team must provide the referee with
24 footballs for each National Football League game. Mickey Lolich, who
pitched for 16 years, hit his only home run in his first World Series game (1968). Ted
Williams won the AL batting titles when he was 39 and again at 40. The last At
Bat of Ted's career was a homerun on the last day of the 1960 season. Al
Kaline at age 20 became the youngest player ever to win a batting title by hitting
.340 in 1955. Johnny Bench was the first catcher to earn the Rookie of the
Year award (1968). Gerd Müller, who played for West Germany in the
1970 and 1974 World Cups, holds the career record for most World Cup goals with
14.
