SOLANA BEACH – Lost during the regular season, the Valhalla Norsemen have gained their footing in the postseason.
In the first two rounds of the San Diego Section Division I competition the Norsemen knocked off St. Augustine 2-1 in nine innings in round one and then Santa Fe Christian in the second round.
Inflating their belief in themselves that they did not have during the regular season, the Norsemen gained momentum, scoring 6 runs in the late innings to eliminate Santa Fe Christian, 6-1.
Case in point was pitcher JUSTIN POE who pitched his 5th straight complete game with a 4-hitter against the Eagles.
Trailing 1-0 after four innings the Norsemen gained the advantage 2-1 in the fifth. CAMERON ZAMUDIO walked, LEWIS DIRKES was safe on an error and COLE HOWARD walked to load the bases. COLE HENDERSON singled to center to score Zamudio and Dirkes, giving Valhalla the edge.
In the sixth inning RILEY O’SULLIVAN doubled to left, MAX HAGEMAN singled to put runners at the corners and Zamudio singled to center, scoring O’Sullivan. Dirkes scored on an error and Henderson scored on a base hit to left.
