LAKESIDE (5-17-16) — VICTOR CARLINO executed a safety squeeze to score SEAN DUNNE with what proved to be the winning run of a 3-2 Grossmont Hills League victory over visiting Steele Canyon.
El Capitan pitcher BLAKE PEYTON limited Steele Canyon to 2 hits and an earned run as he earned his 3rd win in six decisions.
JUSTIN ZAMORA picked up his second save.
Probably the best description of Steele Canyon would be “hard luck.” The Cougars have been in nine 1-run game, winning three and losing six.
In their latest outing against El Capitan the Cougars generated only 2 hits. JOSH ESQUIBEL laced a double in the fourth inning and scored on an errant pick-off throw.
In the sixth inning the Vaqueros tied the game with benefit of only one hit.
Steele Canyon’s Esquibel walked, stole second and came around to score on another wild throw in the sixth. The Cougars had a shot at taking the lead as TREVOR ROW singled and stole second but was nailed on a backdoor pickoff.
