EL CAJON (5-10-16) — The West Hills Wolf Pack jump started their playoff run in their 7-3 triumph over the host Granite Hills Eagles, Monday (May 9).
Three runs by the Wolf Pack in the top of the first inning really jumped their engine as ALEXIS HERRERA (2-4, 2 R) drew the leadoff walk, BROOKE ROBERTS (2-3, 2 R) singled and MOANA PISIA (1-5, 3 RBI, R, 3B) smashed a shot over the right fielders head all the way to the wall that scored both Herrera and Roberts, Pisia would than come into score on a passed ball to make it 3-0.
The Wolf Pack threatened for more as ALEX GUAY (2-3, RBI, R, HR) singled, CAELI GIBBS (run) came into run, PAIGE BOWLER (1-3, RBI, 2B) walked to give runners at first and second with no outs. However the Eagles would get out of the inning as Granite pitcher KATIE DOBBS was able to retire the next three batters.
Both teams would hold each other until the fourth inning when the Wolf Pack again would get on the board and push across three more runs. Herrera would rope a one out double, she would advance to third on a wild pitch, Roberts walked, Pisia grounded out to short but not before Herrera came into score, Guay walked, Gibbs came into run, Bowler smashed a double scoring Roberts, and Gibbs would come into score extending the lead to 6-0.
Everything was going West Hills way as RYLEIGH DOBYNS had only allowed three hits into the bottom of the fourth inning. However the Eagles finally broke through offensively. With one out KAREN CREECH (run) would get hit by a pitch and JESSIE LAPIERRE (1-3, 2 RBI, HR) would crush the Dobyns offering over the left field wall for her second on the season to make it 6-2.
Granite in the bottom of the fifth inning threatened to really cut into the Wolf Pack lead as they were able to get multiple hits. Leading things off, SYDNEY HUSE (1-2, R) singled, HAYLEY BUDVARSON (1-3) singled, and KARA BLANCHARD (1-3) singled to load the bases. However the craziest of things happened and pretty rare as well. Kyler hit the Dobyns pitch to right field where it was caught by Herrera which scored Huse to make it 6-3. After Herrera caught it she threw the ball into second where Pisia proceeded to tag out Blanchard, she than threw the ball to KENDALL MARINISI (1-2) at third who tagged out Budvarson for the ultra-rare triple play.
West Hills in the top of the sixth inning answered the Eagles scoring with another run. Pitching for the Eagles was HALLE KYLER (1-3, RBI) who came into relieve Dobbs. Leading off for West Hills, Guay who had already singled and walked, she would work the count to 2-1 and on the next pitch hammer it over the center field fence for the solo blast to make it 7-3.
It would be all Dobyns would need as she shut down the Eagles in the sixth and the seventh innings to garner the victory. She tossed all 7 innings giving up 3 runs of which all were earned on 7 hits while walking 1 and fanning 4 for her ninth victory of the season.

GROSSMONT 8, VALHALLA 0 – Grossmont behind pitching and some offense kept their league crown hopes alive and bolstered their playoff seed as they defeated the host Valhalla Norsemen 8-0 in Grossmont Hills league action, Monday (May 9).
The Foothillers started their scoring in the top of the second inning behind multiple hits by ALEXIS COLLINS, CARLY PEARSON along with SAMARIA ROOPE getting hit by a pitch to load the bases. Up stepped KATIE APPENZELLER who grounded into a fielders choice which scored Roope, MEGAN MALWITZ ripped a double that scored both Collins and Pearson to make it 3-0.
They would add a couple more runs in the top of the third inning as TAYLOR BAEZ led off with a double, Collins singled and Appenzeller doubled in both Baez and Collins to extend the lead to 5-0. Grossmont added a sixth run in the fourth thanks to an RBI single by Roope that scored DESTINY BACON.
Valhalla in the bottom of the fourth was able to finally breakthrough in the hit column as RACHEL SHELSTROM singled. However that would be all that they would get in the inning.
The Norsemen would garner another hit in the bottom of the fifth when VICTORIA VILLEGAS was able to lace a leadoff single to left. Roope was able to retire the next three batters to end the inning.
Grossmont tacked on a couple more runs in the top of the seventh as Roope had an RBI single and Malwitz also singled in a run to make it 8-0.
Roope on the day for the Foothillers went all 7 innings, giving up 2 hits while striking out 2 for her 13th victory on the season.

SANTANA 16, MOUNT CARMEL 0 – The Santana Sultans behind stellar pitching put on quite the offensive show as they run ruled Division II foe Mount Carmel 16-0 in non-league action, Monday (May 9).
Santana in the first inning behind a two out double by SYDNEY VATES (2-3, RBI, 2 R, 2B), RACHEL WILSON (2-4, 4 RBI, R, HR) single and a RBI single by CASSIDY MATTHIE (1-2, RBI) who continued her hitting terror led 1-0.
They continued the offense in the top of the second inning as NICOLE PENTON MARCH (1-2, R, 2B) led off with a double, SHELBY HOLMQUIST (1-1, 2 RBI, 2 R) knocked her in with a single to make it 2-0, MADDY MENDEZ (3-4, 2 RBI, R, 2B) singled to right field, ERICA REID (1-2, 2 R) came into run, MACKENZIE BENNETT (3-4, 5 RBI, R, HR) singled to center which scored Holmquist to make it 3-0, Reid would come into score to make it 4-0 when the left fielder committed an error and Bennett advanced to second, ASHLEY MADRIGAL (2 R) came into run, Vates singled to center which scored Madrigal to make it 5-0.
The scoring continued in the top of the third for Santana as CELINE MENARD (2 R) led off by getting hit by a pitch, Holmquist advanced Menard to second via a sacrifice, Mendez doubled which scored Menard and Bennett slammed a 2-run homer over the left field wall to extend the lead to 8-0.
More offensive fireworks occurred in the top of the fifth as the Sultans pushed across eight more runs in the inning which was highlighted by Wilson belting a grand slam deep and over the center field fence. BRITTANY MUNDAY (run), ALEXIS BARRY (run) and Vates all scored on the jack. Reid also singled and scored in the inning for the Sultans.
Mendez on the day in the circle tossed all 5 innings for the complete game victory, allowing only 3 hits while only walking 1 and striking out 1 for her 13th victory on the season.

EL CAPITAN 12, MONTE VISTA 2 – In Grossmont Valley league action, the visiting El Capitan Vaqueros took care of business and defeated the host Monte Vista Monarchs 12-2, Monday (May 9).
The Monarchs got on the board first as MARIAH WHITEHEAD (1-3, 2 RBI) knocked in JAYDE GOLDHAGEN on a ground ball to make it 1-0.
El Capitan would take the lead for good a couple of innings later in the top of the third as they pushed across five runs. SAVANNAH MINSHEW led off with a double, MADISYN WIEHER reached on a dropped third strike, Minshew advanced to third and scored on a passed ball, Wieher stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by ZANDRA RAGALE (RBI, R), AMANDA VASQUEZ (2-2, 2 RBI, 2 2B) doubled, HANNAH HARVEY (2 R) came into run, GRACE BURKETT (2-4, RBI, 2 R) singled and Harvey advanced to third, KIM GARCIA (1-3, 2 RBI, R, 2B) doubled which scored Harvey and Burkett advanced to third, she would come into score, Garcia would come into score on a couple passed balls to make it 5-1.
El Capitan added a couple more runs in the top of the fifth to make it 7-1. A couple more runs for the Vaqueros in the top of the sixth as SHAYLA SCHOONARD (1-2, RBI, 2B) doubled in Burkett and before that Harvey came into score.
Monte Vista scored again in the bottom of the sixth on a double by Whitehead to make it 9-2. Three more runs for the Vaqueros in the top of the seventh rounded out the scoring at 12-2. Wieher would score, BAILEY OLAVESON (1-2, RBI, R) would single in NICOLE VACARRO (1-3, R) and Olaveson would come around to score.
Pitching wise the Vaqueros would get 7 innings from Vasquez who gave up 2 runs on 3 hits while walking 4 and striking out 4 in the process for the victory.

HELIX 6, CLAIREMONT 3 – In non-league action, the Helix Highlanders double up the host Clairemont Chieftains 6-3, Monday (May 9).
Helix would strike first as BRIANNA REED was able to draw a bases loaded walk that scored FAITH KING who started things off with a single to make it 1-0. Back to back jacks by DESTINI BULLOCK and GABRIELA OLIVARRIA in the top of the third inning made it 3-0.
The Chieftains cut into the lead as they scored a couple of run in the bottom half to make it 3-2.
The Highlanders extended their lead in the top of the fourth when MCKENZIE FLORES triple which scored both BELLA MENA and FRANKIE MARTINEZ and Bullock knocked in the final run to push the lead to 6-2.
Clairemont would add their final run in the bottom of the seventh inning to make it 6-3.
Reed earned the victory for the Highlanders going the distance in which she gave up 3 runs of which 2 were earned on 6 hits and walked 1.

SERRA 19, MORSE 1 – In Eastern League action, the Serra Conquistadors pounded out 21 hits and behind the magnificent pitching performance tamed the Morse Tigers, Monday (May 9).
JORDAN GRAVES took the circle for the Conquistadors and just completely dominated in her complete game performance. On the day she only gave up 1 run on 4 hits in which she walked 3 and fanned 12 Tigers.
The offense came through as well as Serra led 4-1 through the first four innings. However in the last couple of innings the offense really exploded as it scored 6 runs in the sixth and 9 runs in the top of the seventh inning to round out the scoring.
Serra was led by a balanced offense as DARBY TIBBETTS went 3-4, scored a run and knocked in a run, VIVIAN TOMOVICH went 2-4 and scored twice and knocked in a couple of runs, AMBER WOZNIAK went 3-6 including 2 doubles, scoring twice and plating a run.
SELA FALLON scored a run and knocked in a couple as she went 2-4, Graves even helped her own cause as she had two hits and scored a run and knocked in a run. MEGAN POOLE went 3-5, scored a run and drove in a couple of runs while VALERIE VALADEZ scored 3 times in her 2-3 day at the plate which included a double.
Overall for the Conquistadors everyone who played in the game had a stat and contributed in some way shape or form in the blowout victory.

MIRA MESA 3, CHRISTIAN 2 – The Marauders of Mira Mesa used a middle inning rally to overcome an early deficit to steal the Eastern League contest against the home team Christian, Monday (May 9).
The Patriots fired first as they were able to push across a run in the bottom of the first inning to lead 1-0 early on. SILENT RAIN ESPINOZA led off with a walk, stole second base and would come around to score as ANNA SHERBURNE reached on an error.
They added on another run in the bottom of the second to extend their lead to 2-0 as LAUREN SHERBURNE singled and would come around to score.
However the lead didn’t last as Mira Mesa finally broke through in the top of the third with a run thanks to multiple hits and an error by Christian. They tacked on their final two runs in the top of the fifth inning to claim the 3-2 lead which would stand as Christian couldn’t muster any type of offense.

SCRIPPS RANCH 4, PATRICK HENRY 1 – In Eastern League action between the top two teams, the host Falcons put a plug on the high powered Patrick Henry offense to claim the victory.
Scripps Ranch scored first as they pushed across a run in the bottom of the first inning to lead 1-0 early on.
The Patriots would threaten a couple of innings later in the top of the third as HANNAH MCEWEN singled, LAILA SPRACKLEN singled and CASSIE VANTIL walked but unfortunately couldn’t push anything across.
The Falcons in the bottom of the inning extended their lead to 3-0 thanks to a couple of hits and a wild pitch.
Patrick Henry finally got on the board in the top of the fourth inning with their only run as DANI ROMERO boomed a double and would come around to score on a fielders choice by SAVANNAH CHAPMAN to make it 3-1. However the Falcons added their final run in the bottom of the fifth to round out their scoring.
The Patriots would semi threaten in the top of the sixth inning as ANDREA WRIGHT singled and SPRACKLEN singled advancing Wright to third. Unfortunately they wouldn’t convert as the next batter was retired to end the inning. They would go down in order in the top of the seventh to end the game as well.
With the victory the Falcons claimed no worse than a share of the Eastern League crown as they now lead by a couple of games with only a couple left to play in the season.
