EL CAJON (3-25-16) — Sometimes blowouts happen in baseball. You just hope that the team that you root for is on the positive side of it.
That was not the case on Thursday (Mar. 24) when the Jaguars of Southwestern College (10-11, 7-4 PCAC) came to Noel Mickelsen Field and doubled up 8th-ranked Grossmont (16-7, 9-2 PCAC) 10-5 in a Pacific Coast Athletic Conference contest.
TANNER PERRY (Steele Canyon) and JUSTEN BURKEY (San Pasqual) combined for half of the Griffin eight hits. Perry, JUSTIN MITCHELL (Granite Hills) and ANDRES RIOS (Mater Dei, San Diego) drove in all five of the Grossmont runs.
ANDREW SCHULTZ’s (Patrick Henry) consecutive scoreless innings streak ended at a modest 6.1 innings before giving up a pair of runs in the seventh.
For Southwestern, FREDDY WALKER (Grossmont) went 2-for-4. NICK ALCOSER (Helix) had a game-high three hits, two of which were doubles, and scored twice. CODIE SIMMONS (Granite Hills) had a pocket full of twos. As in two hits, two runs scored and two runs batted in. JUSTIN JAIME (Valhalla) got the win in relief, going the final four and a third scoreless innings.
The two teams will finish the three game series on Friday (Mar. 25) at The Junction on the campus of Southwestern College with a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.
