Patriots Stay Hot With Win Over Titans

CHRISTIAN 7, EASTLAKE 2 – Another day another triumph for the Christian Patriots. This time it was the Eastlake Titans in Mater Dei Invitational action Thursday afternoon.

Early on Christian would take a 1-0 lead thanks to Kaitlyn Moody (2-3, R, 3 RBI, HR) who drove in the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning.

Eastlake would take advantage of a Patriot miscue to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the second inning.

Despite giving the run back due to an error the Patriots were not discouraged and came out in the bottom half on fire and would retake the lead thanks to Alyssa McCurty (1-3, R, 2B) who doubled in a run along with Lucy Sherburne (2-3, R, RBI) who also drove in a run to make it 3-1.

Christian would add to their lead in the bottom of the third on a two-run bomb by Moody deep over the left field fence.

Leading 5-1 the Patriots extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as Ashley Wood (2-3, RBI) drove in Tyler Krystek (1-3, R, 2B) which was followed by Keels Carrizosa (2-3, R, RBI) driving in Keytyn Ruis (R, SB) who replaced Wood as a pinch runner.

Starter Ava Barrios would pick up the win for Christian as she would only surrender one run (zero earned) on five hits over five innings in which she walked one while striking out five.

Offensively the Patriots tallied up 10 hits in the game. Sherburne, Wood, Moody and Carrizosa each tallied two hits on the day.

Christian (11-3-1 overall) improves its winning streak to four games.

 

BRAWLEY 7, GROSSMONT 6 – A two run single by Isabella Yescas of Brawley in the top of the seventh would end up being the difference as they rallied for the come from behind victory over Grossmont in Falcon Fiesta tournament action Thursday afternoon.

Despite outhitting the Wildcats the Grossmont Foothillers dropped the decision. Leading the Foothillers at the plate offensively was Jules Short (3-4, RBI) who tallied three hits in the contest.

Grossmont would jump out to the early lead thanks to Short who drove in a run and a two run double by Skyler Glover (1-3, 2 RBI, 2B) to make it 3-0. The Foothillers added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning as Nakhia Lee (1-3, RBI) drove in a run.

They would add another run in the bottom of the third inning as Madison Busch drove in another run to give them a 5-1 lead.

Demi Cornejo who came into the game in relief for the Wildcats would earn the win. On the day she would allow two hits and no runs over three innings in which she walked one and struck out one.

On the other side for Grossmont, Saraya Roope took the loss as she allowed seven runs (three earned) over her seven innings of work in which she allowed nine hits while walking six and striking out one.

Other contributors offensively for Grossmont (4-8-1) were Jenna Ennis (2-3, R, RBI) and Carleigh Wenck (2-4) who also tallied multiple hits.

 

BONITA VISTA 3, VALHALLA 0 – It just wasn’t the Valhalla Norsemen’s day as they were limited to two hits on the day as the Bonita Vista Barons came away with the Mater Dei Invitational win Thursday afternoon.

Devyn Mack despite her efforts in the circle would take the loss. On the day she allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits over six innings in which she walked three and struck out two.

Jayden Chiaramonte and Natalia Marco were the only two Norsemen to tally hits in the ballgame.

The Norsemen (5-9) have dropped seven games in a row.
