Miller, Rivers step up in Sultans’ playoff victory

SANTEE — In Division IV action of the SDCIF boys basketball playoffs the No. 4 seeded Santana Sultans hosted the No. 13 seeded Trojans of Castle Park and were able to pull out the close 45-38 victory, Tuesday (Feb. 23rd).
Neither team could get things going offensively early on as both teams sputtered with the Trojans leading 5-2 after the first period. Things offensively improved in the second quarter as the Sultans outscored the Trojans 14-9 to lead 16-14 at the break.
Scoring for the Sultans on the night wasn’t the usual suspects but MITCHELL MILLER poured in 10 points and TAYLOR RIVERS also scored 10 points.
The second half was very close on both ends as the Sultans managed to outscore Castle Park 29-24. Overall it was a balanced night for the Sultans as 7 of the 8 players tallied points and all 8 players tallied stats.
Santana with the victory will move on to the second round to play the winner of the Vincent Memorial/Calexico contest on Saturday (Feb. 27).
