Cuyamaca College

If the Cuyamaca Coyotes were eligible to be on the betting bioard at any Las Vegas (orother areas0 caino, this wager is almost a sure thing.

Through 14 cintests this season, the Coyotes defeated all six teams with losing records (except once), then lost to every opponent with a winning record.

Such a opercent age reached more than 94 percent to open the calendar year after Cuyamaca doped a pair of Pacific Coast Athletic Comnference foes which entered with wining records.

On Wednesday (Jan. 2), visiting Southwestern waltzed to an 85-48 triumph.

Then on Friday (Jan. 4), host Palomar survived a late Coyotes surge to claim a narrow 72-68 decision.

Southgwesterb’s Ayden Lockett (University City HS), a diminutive 5-foor-2, 160-pound guard, paced all scorers wityh 28 points.

For Cuyamaca, Quintin Richardson led with 13 points, followed by 12 each for Jamier Sykes and Nico Cervantes. BOXSCORE

In the Palomar contest, the Comets led a 68=57 advantage with 3:43 remaining.

However, the Coyotes rallied to within three points in the closing seconds before Palomar free throws clinched the victory.

Cuyamaca (6-10, 1-3 PCAC) hosts a pair of conference games next week, entertaining San Diego City on Wednesday, then San Diego Mesa on Friday. Both start at 5 p.m.

Grossmont College

The Griffins also dropped a pair of PCAC ballgames last week. The Griffins fell to San Diego Miramar, 88-63, then atMiraCosta, 84-51.

Grossmont receives a schedule break this week, gaining a bye date n Wednesday. The weekend ballgame will be Friday (Jan/10) at hyome to Southwestern, starting at 6 p.m.

 

Women’s Basketba;;

For the first time in the series covering 20+ years, Grossmont and Cuamava college will met, both with wining records/

The ballclubs will open Pacific Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday at Cuyamaca.Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.

Grossmont enters wqith an 11-2 record — the best of any PCAC ballclub. Meanwhile, the Coyotes stand at 6-5, despite going winless at a tournament in Arizona last week, when all of the games were against Division I (scholarship community college) squads.

On Friday, both sides are on the road: Grossmont at Palomar, and Cuyamaca at Imperial Valley.
