Cuyamaca soccer heads to CCCAA semis

RANCHO SAN DIEGO – Cuyamaca College is proving thst officials wit the California Community College Athletic Association continue to prove to be total failures.

For the second consecutive season, the Coyotes men’ssoccer team — ranked a mere 10th in the Southern Califorenia regional — moved into the state Final 4 after posting victories over Pasadena andMiraCosta last week.

In Wednesday’s (Npv. 25) third round, Cuyamaca stopped Pasadena City College, 2-1. Then with just a 2-day tunaround, the Coyotes stopped Conference rival MiraCosta, 2-0, on Friday (Nov. 27 in the fourth round to gain the state berth.

Victors in 13 straight games — and a 14-game non-losing stretch — the Coyotes (17-4-2 overall) next meet añada College of Redwood City in the 3C2A (the re-branded CCCAA) semifinals.

The Mo. 5 ranked Colts (14-3-7) advanced on oenalty kicks after battling Merced to a scoreless draw.

American River College in Sacramento will host the state competition on Dec. 6 and 8. Inbetween on Dec. 7 will be the state Sophomore Showcase.

The other semifinal fetures Butte College, a 3-1 overtime winner of Skyline, and Long Beach City, which downed near-door neighbor Cerritos, 3-1.

Third Round
Cuyamaca 2, Pasadena 1

RANCHO SAN DIEGO – Pasadena City, seeded No. 15, stunned No.2 Mt. San Antonio to advance. But they were nio match for Cuyamacam which geld full control until the clsoing miytes.

The Coyotes found the back of the net twice in the first half while allowing just a single shot by the Lancers.

The goals came from Enrique Rodriguez (assist Luis Maciel) in the 25th mnute, then by Esteban Salais (assist Ali Almaliki) just 10 minutes later.

Pasadena (15-7) pulled oen goal back in the 82nd minjutes when Jordy Aviles converted a penalty kick. But no further dangerous situations would follow.

The rough contest saw 10 yellow cards (6 to PCC) issued. BOXSCORE

 

Fourth Round
Cuyamaca 2, MiraCosta 0

RANCHO SAN DIEGO – Cuyamaca College’d run to the state semifinals, but the path taken by MiraCosta might be even more impressivw.

The Spartans (13-8-3), the runners-up in the PCAC along with San Diegoo CIty, took road decisions against teams ranked higher than those met by the Coyotes.

The Spartans fought San Bernardino Valley to a 2-2 deadlock before winning on penalties. But the biggest surpise was a 1-0 verdict over No. 2 El Camino in Torrance.

Cuyamaca broe the ice in the 30th minutes on a goal by Ali Almaliki (assist Esteban Salais) for a 1-0 halftime lead.

The second half saw Anthony Torres (assist Julian Garcia) double the advantage in the 75th minjutes. BOXSCORE

In the Coyotes’ goal, Broward Maryan posted the shutout. It was Maryan’s third blanking of MiraCosta this season, after winning 2-0 and 3-0 in PCAC play.
