2024 EAST COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL
PLAYOFF QUARTERFINALS
DIVISION I
at GRANITE HILLS 31, TORREY PINES 19 (F) — The Eagles closed to 10-7 with a touchdown in the second quarter with seven minutes to play before halftime by Gage Spalding on a run.
The Falcons took a 13-7 lead on the final play of the first half on a field goal.
However, the Eagles out-scored the Falcons 24-6 in the second half to dominate after halftime.
In the third quarter with 4:25 remaining, Brenden Lewis had a TD reception from Zac Benitez to make it 17-13 in favor of Granite Hills.
Maxwell Turner had a 20-yard TD run to give Granite a 24-13 lead.
In the fourth quarter with 7:43 left, Benitez hit Lewis from five yards for a touchdown to make it 31-13.
The Eagles closed to 13-10 on a 22-yard field goal by Trent Whillock.
The Falcons opened the scoring with a field goal on the game’s opening drive. They added a touchdown early in the second quarter on a TD Pass to Nolan Seahorst to take a 10-point lead.
Granite Hills and Carlsbad will rematch in the semifinals once again this time in Division 1. The Eagles won last year’s game in a 46-45 OT win to advance to the Open Division finals.
at EL CAMINO 43, MOUNT MIGUEL 27 (F) — The Matadors got a touchdown in the first quarter as A.J. Stowers passed to A.J. Logan as the Matadors led 7-3 after the opening quarter.
El Camino extended their lead to 15-7 in the second quarter on a 30-yard fumble return for a touchdown after a sack and ensuing fumble.
Stowers connected with Logan for a short touchdown pass to cut the Wildcats’ lead to 15-13 at halftime.
El Camino scored the next two touchdowns, both in the third quarter, to take a 29-13 lead. Another touchdown in the third quarter made it 36-13.
The Matadors’ Brandon Arrington scored a touchdown in the final minute of the third quarter to make it 36-19, and he also caught the conversion pass to make the score 36-21.
The Wildcats opened the scoring with a field goal in the first quarter.
DIVISION II
at HELIX 41, LA JOLLA 25 (F) — Helix took a 14-10 lead in the second quarter on a run by Pablo Jackson, one of two touchdowns by Jackson in the first half.
Harlan Harris of the Highlanders scored on a 78-yard touchdown on a short pass from Jett Gottleib.
The Highlanders marched right down the field to score on the first possession after halftime. It came on a 10-yard run from Pablo Jackson for his third TD of the night.
Jackson scored his fourth touchdown of the game in the third quarter on a run off the right side in the third quarter, as Helix lead 35-25, with 51 seconds left in the third quarter.
The Vikings closed to within 28-25 on a touchdown in the third quarter, along with a two-point conversion.
La Jolla took a 17-14 lead on a touchdown pass in the second quarter but the Highlanders answered with a touchdown to make it 21-17.
The Vikings regained the lead in the second quarter with a touchdown on a slant over the middle that was caught at the goal line.
The Vikings scored on a field goal with 8:24 left in the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead.
Helix recorded an interception with nine seconds left in the first half, Jeshua Robsinson and Deandre Wilson
at UNIVERSITY CITY 41, CHRISTIAN 28 (F) — The Patriots scored late in the first quarter on a touchdown by Roman Gustin from 28 yards.
The Centurions scored a touchdown in the first quarter on a 77-yard drive.
The Centurion took the lead in the second quarter, making it 14-7 with under five minutes to play.
An interception return for a touchdown late in the half extended the Centurions’ lead to 20-7 with 2:33 left before halftime.
The Patriots got to within a touchdown with a score in the third quarter to make it 21-14 on a 1-yard touchdown run by Brady Eads.
Eads kept the Patriots alive late in the third with a 50-yard run to the UC 10, then he went in for a short touchdown to make it 28-21 with 1:24 left in the third.
The Centurions countered with a big touchdown in the fourth quarter, although the Pats blocked the PAT to make it 34-21.
UC extended the lead to 28-14 with a 20-yard touchdown pass.
Christian kept the hopes alive late with a touchdown by Kai Rosier with 3:38 to play in the game as it was 34-28.
UC added a late fourth quarter score for the final margin.
The Patriots attempted and recovered an on-side kick to start the game.
DIVISION IV
at EL CAPITAN 44, CHULA VISTA 13 (F) — El Capitan scored just past the midway mark of the first quarter when Brody Copp had a 2-yard rushing touchdown.
El Capitan extended a lead to 21-14 on a 10-yard run by Brady Joralemon with under four minutes to play.
Aaron Altimirano had an interception to put the ball on the Spartan 10.
El Capitan took a 28-7 lead into halftime after the touchdown pass from Barker to Braiden Linder from 18 yards out.
Brayden Ford kicked a 29-yard field goal to extend El Cap’s lead to 31-7.
Joralemon had a 6-yard rushing touchdown early in the fourth quarter to make the score 31-13.
Barker had a 38-yard touchdown pass to Michael Valencia just past the midway mark of the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 44-13.
The Vaqueros struck on their second drive of the first quarter when Brandt Barker connected with Ayden Banegas for a touchdown with under a minute to go in the period for a 14-0 lead. The pair connected on a long pass to get into Chula Vista territory on the drive.
A great catch by Chula Vista’s Gabriel Ruiz on a long bomb from Izaac Baca puts the Spartans on the board at 14-7.
at GROSSMONT 49, MIRA MESA 21 (F) — The Foothillers led 8-0 after the first quarter and turned in one of their best defensive halves of the season, posting a 20-6 lead at halftime in a rematch against the Marauders.
The Foothillers led 26-12 in the third quarter.
DIVISION V
MONTE VISTA 47, at HOOVER 46 (F) — The score was tied at 13-all at the end of the first quarter but the Monarchs got a field goal in the second quarter to take a 16-13 lead.
The Monarchs led 27-20 at halftime but eventually led 40-26 at the end of the third quarter.
Alex Villanuena scored five touchdowns for the Monarchs.
at BONITA VISTA 14, SANTANA 0 (F) — Santana and Bonita Vista played a brisk, scoreless first quarter, but the Barons scored the first touchdown as Diego Lopez returned a blocked kick 98 yards for a score.
The Barons’ Nathan Lindquist had a 22-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Isayah Luna with 1:04 to go in the second quarter for a 14-0 lead.
at CRAWFORD 21, WEST HILLS 14 (F) — West Hills scored on its first drive on a 13-yard run by Joey Hamilton on a keeper.
The Colts tied the game after the Wolf Pack had a snap go over the quarterbacks head that was recovered by Crawford in the end zone, making it 7-all.
Crawford extended the lead with a touchdown pass with 10 seconds to go before halftime.
Crawford took a 21-7 lead on a touchdown pass with 5:23 left in the third quarter.
Aiden Kidwell returned the ensuing kickoff 76 yards, taking the ball on a bounce and cutting through the kicking team’s pursuit to get into clear field, and the Pack still trailed by just seven, 21-14.
