8-man

Foothills Christian 86, Calvin Christian 58

LA MESA – The re-build of the Foothills Christian High football program — not the basketball team — has come along much quicker than expected.

Following the lost Covid-19 season of 2020, when most San Diego Section schools played just six games while the Knights did not field a team, the schools scored just 71 points total in the 2021 season.

Those days are long forgotten.

On Friday (*Oct. 18), Foothills Christian established a school record nby collecting 86 points, walloping visiting Calvin Christian 86-58, in sn 8-man, Ocean League contest at Parkway Middle School’s Seau Field.”

The previous school mark was 69 in as shutout triumph over PAL (Provisional Accelertaed Learning) of San Bernardino last fall.

The 86 points is tied for seventh place on the all-time CIF-San Diego Section list by a single team.

However, the combined tota of 144 points in tied for second place all-time.

The combined record was actually held in East County, but by two non-local teams.

South Bay based Lutheran High (now Victory Christian) once played its home gained at Grossmont College’s Mashin-Roth Memorial Field, where they fell to St. Joseph of San Marcos, 96-74, in a season finale contest held on Nov. 11, 2008.

Several individual marks were also set by the Knights.

Running back Ben Hernandez rushed for 229 yards and a school-record 8 touchdowns. The CIFSDS record is 11 for an individual in a single game.

However, Hernandez was not the leading ground-gainer — Kam Brown ran for a game-best 312 yards.

Aiding the scoring was placekicker Marshal Hensley, who booted 9 PATs and a field goal for his 12 points.
