‘Phi Mesa Face-a’ – Olympians crush GC

KEARNY MESA – In 2023, Grossmont College was ranked No. 1 in California for most of the season, with San Diego Mesa resting in the No. 2 slot.

However, despite the Griffins capturing another Pacific Coast Athletic Conference crown, it was the Olymnpian which took the state championship after the folks in the CCAA (California Community College Athletics) mess up on the rankings entering the playoffs.

There will be no mistakesthis season.

San Diego Mesa posted its largest victory over Grossmont this century, limiting the G-House to a mere six points in the third set in a decisive, 25-22, 25-14, 25-6 triumph.

The result were certainly maintain the Olympians’ position as the top-ranked team in the state.

Mesa’s Halen Kiefer (Placentia, Calif.) paced both sices with 12 kills, almost single-handily matched Grossmont’s team total of just 16 putaways.

Macy Thornburgh (Castle Rock, Colo.) added six service aces for the Olympians.

Once again, the Grossmont spiking leader was Andrea Torreswith seven.

San Diego Miramar 3, Cuyamaca College 1

MIRA MESA – In a hottly conteststed match, the first three sets was to the max or into extended play (a/k/a, overtime) before Cuyaamaca College ran out of gas, falling to host San Dieo Miramar, 25-12, in Wednesday’s PCAC match at Miramar.

The Jets registered nine kills in the final set, while the Coyotes were completely shutout according to statistics provided by Miramar.

However, it was determined that the Jets did not keep proper team stats, so the spiking total will not qualify for any sport of record.

Cuyamaca College 3, San Diego City 0

RANCHO SAN DIEGO – Cuyamaca College captured its first PCAC women’s volleyball match of the season by whipping visiting San Diego City in three sets.

Despite the school’s on-court success, nothing was reported except the scores.

Grossmont College 3, Southwestern 0

FLETCHER HILLS – No report by the Griffins (except the scores).
