No. 4 Granite Hills 49, Eastlake 16
EL CAJON — Seven different Granite Hills Eagles players scored touchdowns on Friday night in a 49-16 win over Eastlake on Pop Warner Night.
Sophomore quarterback Zachary Benitez passed for three touchdowns as the Eagles drew away from the Titans.
Max Turner had a 75-yard touchdown run to give the Eagles a 7-3 lead after Eastlake booted a field goal on the game’s opening drive.
Benitez had a 3-yard rushing touchdown, then added a 3-yard touchdown pass to senior Lathan Fry to make it, 21-3.
The first half features back-to-back kickoff returns by the two teams.
Granite Hills senior Brenden Lewis had a touchdown return of 87 yards just moments after Isaiah Rodriguez, of Eastlake, had a return of 98 yards, as the dual scores made it, 28-10
Gage Spalding, a sophomore, rushed for 92 yards for Granite Hills (3-1), including a touchdown from 8 yards in the second half.
Junior De’vell Green scored on a 30-yard touchdown receptions for the Eagles
Junior Emilio Vera had a 6-yard touchdown catch.
Eastlake (1-3) was limited to just 128 yards of total offense.
Sophomore Zedahn Smith ahd junior Eric Netto had interceptions for the Eagles.
No. 5 Mount Miguel 34, Bishop’s 14
LA JOLLA — The Mount Miguel Matadors got revenge for their only local loss last season by defeating the Bishop’s Knights on Friday night at La Jolla High’s Scripps Field,
The impressive win for the fifth-ranked Matadors gave them back-to-back wins here in La Jolla, as Mount Miguel won at La Jolla Country Day last Friday in a rematch of last year’s San Diego CIF Division IV championship game.
Mount Miguel quarterback K.J. Stowers threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Ezelle Buchanon in the first quarter for a 6-0 lead against the Knights.
Zane Rottier scored on a 35-yard touchdown to put Mount Miguel back in the lead early in the third quarter after the Matadors trailed the Knights, 7-6, at halftime.
Rottier added a 20-yard run in the third quarter to extend the lead to 20-7 just minutes later.
K.J. Shields had a 27-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter to extend the lead to 27-7. He added a 2-yard score for a 34-7 lead late in the third.
Mount Miguel (4-0) had a big night on the ground behind its unheralded offensive line, led by seniors Adrien Figueroa and Joseph Kellogg, and juniors Iosua Faleagafua, Dristan Williams, and Frank Fanua.
