Sultans rolling up yards, victories

SANTEE – Senior Kaedyn Hallman had another big night and the Santana Sultans had another big win at Santee Community Stadium on Friday night.

Hallman scored three touchdowns for Santana, rushing for 210 yards, helping the Sultans to a 37-14 win over the visiting Hilltop Lancers

Santana (2-1) rushed for 339 yards on the ground, averaging 8.7 yards per carry against the Lancers’ defense.

Sophomore quarterback Ethan Miller was 8-for-10 for the Sultans, including a 78-yard touchdown hookup with sophomore Denton Goar.

Goar finished with four receptions for 129 yards.

Rising freshman star Julian Mayers had a sack in the third quarter. He also carried the ball three times for 40 yards and a touchdown.

Hilltop (1-2) trailed just 17-14, but Santana scored the final 20 points of the game.

Hallman had a 29-yard score to open the scoring.

Junior Grant Johnson booted a 32-yard field goal after the Lancers tied the game at 7-all. The score was just 10-7 at haltime.

The Sultans extended the lead to 17-7 on another touchdown run by Hallman with 7:27 remaining in the third quarter.

Hallman’s 73-yard touchdown run was his third score of the night and gave the Sultans a 31-14 lead.

Brody Rotell, a senior, had an interception for the Sultans, which he returned 27 yards.

Aiden Thornton led the Sultans with nine tackles. Mayers had seven tackles , including three for loss.

Hilltop QB Knecko Vasquez rushed for 106 yards and hit Julian Moran with a 35-yard TD pass.

Santana senior Omar Salih had a blocked field goal.

Santana travels to face Olympian on Friday.
