Helix senior running back Isaiah “Pablo” Jackson rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns, while Highlander junior quarterback Jerome Stevens passed for two touchdowns.
Both teams came into the game a rare 0-2 after the first couple of weeks of the season.
While both teams are young, the Highlanders proved to be the more experienced team in this one.
Helix sophomore Braylon Ross hauled in a 26-yard score from Stevens to make it 28-13, while junior Jeremy Davis scored on a 9-yard reception from Stevens earlier in the contest.
Helix was led defensively by senior Gabe Giordano, who had 12 tackles, including five solo, and Jordan Lindley, who had 13 total stops and two sacks.
Helix freshman Eunique Johnson had an interception to put the cap on the victory.
Stevens, making his first start of the season at quarterback, was 13-of-17 for 125 yards through the air.
Senior Harlem Harris had five receptions for 52 yards.
Ever since the Saints took the 2018 CIF championship, 21-20, the Scotties have now won 5-of-6 meetings, taking a 13-4 lead in the series, including a CIF championship victory in 2015.
The Highlanders will host the Madison Warhawks in a pretty stern test this week at Arnaiz Field.
