ALCALA PARK – The 2024 baseball season came to a quick end after the University of San Diego fell in regional action to UC Santa Barbara.
However, postseason accolades are pouring in.
Two members of the Toreros nominated for major awards are Granite Hills High alum Austin Smith, along with relief pitcher Conner Thurman.
Smith is among the five national finalists for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award.
Smith, a junior left=hander is a transfer from Division I UC San Diego. In 2023, he was an All-West Coast Conferecne second team selection, and is now up for national honors.
Meanwhile, Thurman is among the 10 biding for the Stopper of the Year Awar, as awarded by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
