CITY EASTERN LEAGUE
CHRISTIAN 8, CANYON HILLS 7 (4-29-24) – The Christian Patriots would race out to a four-run lead and would eventually hold onto beat the Canyon Hills Rattlers 8-7 in City Eastern League action on Monday afternoon.
Early on the Patriots opened up the scoring thanks to Kayleigh Martin who belted a solo shot to right field to give them a 1-0 lead.
Canyon Hills would tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning when Mya Stein took advantage and was able to steal home successfully.
However, Christian would break the tie in the top of the third inning as they would push across three runs in the inning.
Kaitlyn Moody drove in the first run as she ripped a double to center field bringing in Lucy Sherburne who was followed by Keels Carrizosa driving in Lily Reyes who came into run for Moody to make it 3-1. Christian added another run in the inning on a follow-up double by Ashley Wood that brought in Carrizosa.
Moving to the top of the fourth inning and now leading 4-2 as Canyon Hills had answered with a run to cut the deficit in half the Patriots would add a couple more runs to give them a 6-2 lead.
Adding to the lead in the top half of the fourth inning was Moody who tripled in a run and was followed by Carrizosa driving in a run.
Two more runs for the Rattlers in the bottom of the fourth inning pulled them within 6-4. Christian though would take advantage of an error by the Rattlers in the top of the sixth inning as they would lead 8-4.
Sienna Staite who started for Christian earned the win as she allowed four runs on seven hits over four innings while walking one and striking out two. Ava Barrios who came into the game in relief garnered the save as she tossed three innings in which she allowed three runs on no hits while walking six and striking out five.
Christian with the win has won two games in a row and moves to 18-5-1 overall and 5-0 in league play while Canyon Hills falls to 7-11 overall and 2-3 in league play.
