SAN DIEGO (1-31-16) — Mount Miguel was no challenge for the Las Vegas Bishop Gorman Gaels, who blew out the Matadors 70-42 in Saturday’s (Jan. 30) non-league encounter at San Diego Mesa College.
The victory raised the Gaels record to 23-1, including a 12-game winning streak. The only loss for Bishop Gorman was 74-69 overtime loss to San Diego Bishop’s in the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic.
Mount Miguel fell to 14-8 overall.
SATERA BATES led a meager Mount Miguel attack with 14 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, while DESTINI ANDERSON and AMBER HARD contributed 10 points apiece.
Mount Miguel is ticketed for two of its biggest East County games next week.
“We haven’t had as big of league games as these two in a long time,” said Matadors coach ROBBIE SANDOVAL.
More bad news for the Matadors is the loss of point guard LAILA SMITH, who is lost for the season with injuries to her meniscus, ACL and MCL.
The Matadors will travel to Helix on Tuesday (Feb. 2) at 6 p.m. Three days later they will face off in a game at West Hills at 5:30.
Mount Miguel: Satera Bates 14 (3 reb, 4 ast, 3 stl), Destini Anderson 10 (1 reb, 1 ast), Amber Hard 10 (1 reb), Tiaja Bennett 7, Rozlyn Pierce 4 (4 reb), Camara Douglas (6 reb, 1 stl, 2 blk), Michelle Corley (1 reb).
