2023 EAST COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL
MOUNT MIGUEL 66, GROSSMONT 20 – The Mount Miguel Matadors set a school record for points in a game in the road win at Grossmont.
The Matadors bested their previous high in a 63-6 victory at El Cajon Valley in 1983. The Matadors also defeated El Cajon Valley by a score of 62-0 in 2013 at Mount Miguel.
Mount Miguel’s Jeremiah Castillo had six receptions, finishing with 228 all-purpose yards, and scored three touchdowns, plus a two-point conversion. He had two receiving touchdowns and a kick return for a touchdown.
Castillo’s catch-and-run short pass extended the Matadors’ lead to 33-20 with just over two minutes to go before halftime. His punt return with 7:44 left in the third quarter made the score 45-20.
Davian McGowan had three touchdowns for the Matadors.
Senior Johnny Castro caught a touchdown pass for Mount Miguel.
Freshman Delonatay Williams had a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown. He also caught a short pass and scored a touchdown from 23 yards.
Matthew Barton threw for 255 yards and four touchdowns for Mount Miguel (4-0), which is undefeated after four games for the first times since 2011, when they were coached by former Grossmont High coach Tom Karlo.
Senior back Isaac Aceves rushed for 2-yard score for Grossmont (2-2).
Hudson Herber connected with Cody Bigley for a Foothiller score.
Herber also rushed for a score.
