Women’s Beach Volleyball

Bogle (left) & Emery: ranked No. 1 in the nation

FLETCHER HILLS – The nation’s top-ranked pair in women’s beach volleyball, Madi Bogle and Alana Embry,have been named the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference athletes of th week.

The pair of Bogle-Embry are undefeated this season since being united in early March, holding an unblemished 13-0 record (7-0 PCAC) and rated the top combo by the community college women’s beach volleyball coaches association.

Bogle is a sophomore that has already signed with Grand Canyon University for the 2023-24 academic year. She is out of Eastlake High.

Grand Canyon, an NCAA I program, is joining the new Coastal Collegiate Sports Association. When the season begins, the coast-to-coast circuit will feature the Lopes, along with existing members Florida State, LSU, Missouri State, South Carolina and TCU.

Embry is a Division I bounce back from New Mexico State. During her time in Los Cruces, the Poway native dished out 300 assists in 29 matches.

Women’s Tennis

It’s yet another PCAC conference championship for head coach Megan Huber and her Grossmont College Griffins, taking the trophy for the 8th time in nine season.

Capturing the title also meant not playing the PCAC postseason tournament — which Grossmont College was scheduled to host this weekend — but the other schools conceded and gave the Griffins another piece of hardware.

Grossmont will now have three weeks to prepare for the CCCAA state championships, to be held in Okai starting on Thurs., April 27.

Grossmont College also reports that three members of the women’s tennis team have been accept to San Diego State this fall, all hoping to join the Aztecs club team. The school reports:

Amy Linquist, Ellie Capurro and Hannah Bodtke have all been accepted to be students at SDSU starting in the Fall of this year.

Linquist, a Covid-Sophomore out of Grossmont HS is currently playing as part of the top doubles team with Kat Busani. The one time Foothiller is number two on the singles roster and will be studing Food and Nitrition in the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences.

Capurro, a freshman from Santana in Santee is one-half of the number two doubles team that had a comback of epic proportions against City recently, will be entering her Sophomore year in the Fall. The Social Science for teachers major is currently not just on the tennis team as the number four singles player, but also the Director of Campus Activities for the Associated Students of Grossmont College. This is Ellie’s second year on the ASGC board.

Finally, Bodtke a Covid-Sophomore from Monte Vista HS in Spring Valley is the other half of the number two doubles team for Grossmont. The number three singles player received an extra year due to the Covid Pandemic. Hannah will be majoring in graphic design in the School of Art and Design.
