RANCHO SAN DIEGO (1-2-16) — The El Cajon Valley Lady Braves certainly started out 2016 on the right foot going 2-0 on the first day of the Steele Canyon New Year’s Ball Tournament.
The day got off to a good start as the Lady Braves (9-5) defeated Mission Vista 51-47 in double overtime in the morning session. LEANNA WATSON lead the team with 35 points against Mission Vista. She one-uped that in the night cap against Julian.
In the second game of the day, the Lady Braves won in a running clock inducing 64-13 final over Julian.
“It is difficult being the youngest on the team and being the captain,” sophomore Watson said after the game. “It is kinda hard to earn respect, but I just play my game.”
And one heck of a game she possesses. She poured in 47 of the teams 64 points, 41 of them in the first half. But she wasn’t the only one to make it to double figures. TITISHIA CLEMONS had a double-double and not in the traditional way. She had 14 points and 11 steals, not the traditional categories to have a double-double in.
ECV came out and put the game away early as they outscored the Eagles (0-6) 16-4 in the opening quarter. Then the Braves played defense, and limited Julian to only a single point in the second frame, while scoring 23 of their own.
By going 2-0 in Pool B, El Cajon Valley will be facing the winner of Pool A in the championship game today at 4:30 p.m.
