2022-23 SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN COLLEGE BASEBALL
ECS staff report
SANTEE — Josh Milner, an assistant baseball coach at Arizona Christian College, has been named the new head baseball coach at San Diego Christian College.
Milner replaces Brian Schroeder, who stepped down to focus his attention on his role as the Hawks’ Director of Athletics.
“I just didn’t have enough time to be efffective in both roles,” said Schroeder, who remains as one of the all-time strikeout leads in the CIF-San Diego Section out of Christian High. “But we’ve brought in a bunch of wonderful coaches in all sports.”
Milner spent five seasons with the ACU Firestorm,, specializing in recruiting, and working with catchers.
Off-campus, Milner worked full-time with Fellowship of Christian Athletes of Greater Phoenix over the past three years.
“Josh brings with him an impressive resume’ that includes extensive collegiate coaching experience, but most importantly a history of changing lives through his ministry,” said Schroeder. “As the outgoing manager, I wanted to ensure that the team I have invested in personally and care so much about, was given not only a great baseball coach but someone who was a man of God. We have found that in Josh Milner.”
“His Christ-centered approach to coaching will help prepare our student-athletes for excellence on the field, in the classroom, and for what awaits them later in life.”
The on-field of the Hawks has been light of late, but signs are positive on several levels.
“The ballclub is a lot better at San Diego Christian than the stats show,” said pitcher Luke Gentry. “With the new coach and some really good players coming in, we’ll be a team to watch in the next few years.”
Milner received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with a minor in English from Wayland Baptist University and has been working on a Master’s in Kinesiology at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. Prior to WBU, he attended Glendale Community College of Arizona).
Other New Coaches
Schroeder also announced two additions to the Hawks coaching roster for the upcoming fall sports season.
Bridgette Salas has been appointed the Director of Volleyball, while Daniel Guerrero will take over both cross-country programs.
Salas will serve as head coach of the women’s indoor team and oversee the spring women’s beach volleyball program.
Salas has been a player or coach for more than 30 years. Her most recent assignment was at Classical Academy in Escondido, leading the Caimans (a type of lizard) to five straight beach volleyball titles and three indoor volleyball crowns.
Guerrero will head both the men’s and women’s running programs.
Most recently, Guerrero served as the head men’s and women’s track and field and cross-country coach for Simpson University in Northern California.
A former collegiate runner himself, Guerrero competed for NCAA Division II Fresno Pacific University of the PacWest Conference and has raced at the USA indoor trials in the 1K event..
