EL CAJON (12-12-15) — Coming off their tournament victory the previous weekend, the Grossmont Griffins hosted the El Camino Warriors, Friday (Dec.11) won a lopsided contest 78-35.
The contest was never in doubt for the Griffins as it was a full team effort to put away the Warriors in the first half. Grossmont as a team shot 14-for-28 from the field including 7-for-15 from behind the arc. Led by KAELIN MITCHELL who scored 12 of his team high 20 points in the first half including 6 treys. It wasn’t just the offense that was clicking but also the defense as it limited the Warriors to 6-for-23 shooting from the field in the half to lead 27-14.
The second half was more of the same for the Griffins as they continued their complete domination as they shot 15-for-25 from the field, highlighted by 7-for-10 from three point land. Other keys to the lopsided victory was they dominated on the glass 38-21 and converted off Warrior turnovers for 30 points.
Due to the nature of the game, Griffin head coach DOUG WEBER took out his starters and inputted his bench who outscored the Warrior bench 31-21. Leading the way for the Griffins off the bend was ERVIN SHEPARD and QUADARIUS FAIR both of whom chipped in 7 points. Other contributors from the starters were DANIEL MCCOWN and MARCOS MEZA who each had 9 points including a combined 6-for-9 from beyond the arc.
“Everyone really stepped up tonight, the bench really kicked it up a notch.” Said the Griffins LUKE JACKSON.
With the victory the Griffins upped their record to 7-3 pushed their winning streak to 4 games and look to get into the rankings of the ensuing poll. Next up for the Griffins will be a home game on Wednesday (Dec.16th) against ComptonCollege at 5 pm.
