The Foothillers who came into the contest as the eleven seed would take an early lead thanks to an RBI single by Jade Daley that scored Natalie Emery which was followed by a ground ball out that allowed Na’Khia Lee to race home for the second run.
Caitlyn Potts who drew the start for the Hillers allowed seven hits and one run which came in the bottom of the fifth inning over seven innings of work while striking out four on the day.
The lone run for the Mavericks came courtesy of a two-out single.

RANCHO SAN DIEGO – Naomi Villava struck out three and shut down the Chieftains on Tuesday afternoon as Valhalla (19-7) eliminated Clairemont (14-13) in play-in action to advance to the double-elimination portion of the playoffs.
The Norsemen got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Avery Voth hit a ground ball that was misplayed by the Chieftains and safely reached and in the process allowed Maryn Jordan to race around from second base and score to make it 1-0. They would add another run in the inning on a ground ball out by Villava that scored Voth.
More damage in the bottom of the third inning by Valhalla would extend their lead further thanks to an RBI double by Cadyn Ruffer to score Jordan and later in the inning Villava drove in Ruffer to give them a 4-0 lead.
Villava allowed only a pair of Chieftain base runners to get on the rest of the game as she went all seven innings to pick up the victory.
Clairemont with the loss is eliminated while the Norsemen advance to take on rival and fourth-seeded Granite Hills on Thursday afternoon. It will be the first meeting between the two this season.
