First-place Patriots blank Vikings

2022 EAST COUNTY PREP SOFTBALL

EL CAJON (4-21-22) – Behind a combined two-hit shutout and the four batters posting multiple hits, the Christian Patriots (14-8, 3-0 CL) blanked the visiting La Jolla Vikings (4-15, 2-2 CL) 10-0 in five innings on Thursday afternoon in City League action.
The Patriots behind Allyson Moody (1-2, 2 R, RBI, 3B) who would get the win as she threw four innings of two-hit ball allowing zero runs while walking two and striking out three, and Payton Grosset (1-2) who came in and tossed an inning of shutout ball while striking out two would take care of things early as they scored nine runs over the first two innings.
Not only was the pitching stellar but the bats in the bottom of the first would come alive as Moody would triple which allowed Tyler Krystek (1-2, 2 R, 3 SB) to come home, Lucy Sherburne (2 R, RBI) followed by reaching on an error that allowed Moody to score, Ashley Wood (2-2, 3 R, 2 RBI) would follow with a base hit that allowed Sherburne to come into score from second base and later with two outs Wood would come into score on a passed ball to make it 4-0.
Christian would add to their lead in the bottom of the second inning with a two-out rally as Krystek who singled would later score on an error by the Vikings, Wood would follow with an RBI single to make it 6-0, the next batter Kaitlyn Moody (2-3, 2 RBI) would drive in Sherburne to make it 7-0, Wood would come around and score on a passed ball for the second time in the game and Giselle Colmenero (1-3, RBI) would drive in Hannah Mroz to round out the scoring.
Leading by a score of 9-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning the Patriots would push across another run thanks to a single by Kaitlyn Moody that would score Wood.
Grosset would come into the game in the top of the fifth inning for the Patriots and quickly strike out the first two batters and get the third out on a ground ball to end the game.
