ECS staff report
CARMEl HIGHLANDS — The Cathedral Catholic High baseball program, one of the better programs in San Diego County, finally had a chance to get over .500 with a young ballclub that figures to again contend in the near future.
Playing in what could be considered a throw-away, non-league contest, the Dons held a late lead when the sky fell in.
Christian High, which earlier held a 3-0 lead, bounced back with three runs in the seventh inning, shocking Cathedral Catholic, 7-5, in non-league action held Wednesday (Apr. 20) at Manchester Field.
Talk about a bad day to pay your taxes — worse, the Dons have been stamped as “over due.”
Both ballclubs exchanged three runs each in the third inning, then Christian scored n the fourth.
However, the Patriots looked done when the Dons scored twice in the fifth, only to see Christian countered in its final trip to the plate.
No other game information was reported — either team-wise or individually.
Records
Christian is now 13-4 overall, continuing its league bye period by traveling to Brawley (12-7) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Patriots have now won seven straight — including all three Eastern League contests to sit in first place — last falling almost a month ago to St. Augustine, the Dons’ arch rival.
Cathedral Catholic falls to 9-10, returning to Western League play on Monday to start a three-game series with Madison.
The Dons had won eight straight in the series, but now the Patriots have captured two straight.
