LAS VEGAS (4-16-22) – The Christian Patriots in their first game of the day would do the majority of their damage over the last few innings to procure the 5-2 victory over the Birmingham Patriots out Lake Balboa (Calif.) in Las Vegas Jamboree tournament action at Majestic Park.

The Patriots of Birmingham according to the computer rankings came into the contest ranked #3 in Division I in the Los Angeles City Section. Despite this lofty ranking, they were no match for the Christian Patriots who would take advantage of the opportunities presented to them.

Christian would early on take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Lucy Sherburne knocked in Allyson Moody on a base hit to center field.

Birmingham would threaten in the bottom of the fourth inning with one out as they would get runners on courtesy of a hit by a pitch and a double but Moody was able to get out of the jam as she retired the next two batters to end the inning.

Still leading by a slim margin of 1-0 the Patriots again would take advantage of a defensive miscue when Kate Manes hit a ball to third base that was misplayed allowing Ashley Wood to race home to give them a 2-0 lead.

Christian would extend their lead even further in the top of the sixth inning starting with a leadoff double by Rachel Stephens which was followed by moody helping her own cause as she hammered a two-run shot over the left-field fence to extend the lead 4-0.

Birmingham though would finally get on the board in the bottom of the inning as they scored a pair of runs to cut the deficit in half 4-2. But that didn’t last as Christian would tack on one more run in the top of the seventh inning courtesy of an RBI double by Tyler Krystek that plated Giselle Colmenero.

Only allowing a walk in the bottom of the seventh inning Moody would retire the next two batters to end the game.

For her efforts, Moody would get the win as she only allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings to get pick up the complete-game victory for the Patriots.

Winslow (Ariz.) 8, Christian 7

LAS VEGAS (4-16-22) – Three runs scored in the bottom of the seventh by the Winslow Bulldogs out of Winslow Arizona procure them the come from behind 8-7 victory on Saturday over the Christian Patriots.

The Patriots have played some of the top teams in the tournament and continued this trend as the Bulldogs according to the computer rankings came into the contest ranked #3 in the Arizona Conference 3A with a record of 17-6.

Christian though would lead 1-0 in the top of the first inning courtesy of an RBI single by Allyson Moody that allowed Kate Manes to score.

They had another opportunity in the top of the second to add to the lead as Moody led off with a single followed by a base hit by Jordyn Krystek. However, the Bulldogs would get out of the inning thanks to the rare triple play as they fielded the Giselle Colmenero bunt and proceeded to throw out all the runners to end the inning.

After avoiding any damage being done the Bulldogs would apply some of their own as they would take a 2-1 lead on a two-run home run.

But that momentum would be wiped out by the Patriots thanks to an RBI single by Stephens that brought home Manes who hit a one-out double.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning, the Patriots would threaten again thanks to back-to-back one-out singles by Kaitlyn Moody and Jordyn Krystek. Coming into run for Moody was Lucy Sherburne and a couple of batters later with two outs, Payton Grosset would hit a ball that was misplayed allowing Sherburne to score and give them a 3-2 lead.

Christian would tack on another run in the top of the fifth inning courtesy of a misplayed ball by the Bulldogs allowing Allyson Moody to score which made it 4-2. However, the Bulldogs would score three runs courtesy of multiple base hits to retake the lead 5-4.

Now trailing again the Patriots once again would retake the lead thanks to Allyson Moody who belted a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to make it 6-5. Later in the inning, Kaitlyn Moody would come home on a wild pitch to make it 7-5.

An RBI double for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the seventh inning would pull them within 7-6, a couple of batters later after an intentional walk they would score the game-tying run on an error and later the game-winning run with a two-out base hit.
