Early Fish double fries Marauders

RANCHO SAN DIEGO (3-24-22) – Early runs scored by the Valhalla Norsemen, including a 2-run double by McKayla Fish, helped propel their 7-3 victory over the visiting Mira Mesa Marauders on Thursday afternoon in non-league action.

An RBI single by Cadyn Ruffer (1-3, 2R, RBI, SB) that scored Bella Moscoso (RUN, SB) tied the game at 1-1 and a couple of batters later, Fish (1-2, 3 RBI, 2B) smashed a two-run double scoring both Maryn Jordan (2 R) and Ruffer to give the Norsemen a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Valhalla would lead 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning when they scored another run courtesy of a sacrifice fly by Avery Voth (RBI) that plated Naomi Villava (2-3, R, RBI, 2B, SB) to make it 4-2.

The Norsemen would add to their two-run lead in the bottom of the sixth inning starting with Jordyn scoring on an error by Mira Mesa which was followed by Ruffer racing home for a successful stolen base attempt of home to make it 6-2. They would add another run courtesy of Villava who doubled to left field that brought in Liliana Moscoso (RUN) to make it 7-2.

Fish who got the starting nod would get the victory as she only allowed three runs on ten hits over seven innings of work in which she walked one and fanned fourteen on the day.

With the victory, the Norsemen improve their record to 10-3 overall and have won five of their last seven contests including two in a row.

Valhalla will now move into league play starting with a 4 P.M. matchup against the visiting Mount Miguel Matadors.
