CARLSBAD (3-24-22) – A strong pitching performance by Taylor Rose was all the Granite Hills Eagles needed as the bats came alive late in the game to procure a 5-0 road non-league victory over the La Costa Canyon Mavericks on Thursday afternoon in an important game when it comes to playoffs as both teams are Division II.
Rose who picked up the win in her strong performance went all seven innings in which she allowed no runs on three hits while striking out nine on the day.
Despite the gem of a performance in the circle would the offense do anything as both teams were scoreless the entire game.
Finally, in the top of the sixth, the Eagles would break thru starting when with one out Mackenna Hines (1-3, R, SB) singled, she would come around and score on the very next play when Chloe Knepp (1-2, R, RBI) followed with a hard-hit single to left field.
Leading 1-0 and with two outs Knepp would advance to second base via a passed ball and come around and score when Kamryn Flath (2-2, R, RBI, SB) singled to left field to make it 2-0 after Sofia Mujica reached on an error and Flath advancing to third the next batter Kailey Sandoval (1-4, R, RBI, 2B) roped a double scoring Flath giving them a 3-0 lead. Granite Hills would stretch out their lead even further when Audrey Smale (2-4, 2 RBI) singled in both Chantelle Gonzalez (RUN) and Sandoval.
Despite allowing a couple of runners to reach in the bottom of the seventh inning Rose was able to overcome that as she retired the next batter to end the game and secure the victory.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 8-5-1 and have won five of their last six contests and will now move onto Grossmont Hills league play where they will start off next Tuesday at home against the El Capitan Vaqueros which is slated for a 4 PM start time.
