2022 EAST COUNTY PREP SOFTBALL

EL CAJON (3-7-22) – A complete team effort on the day by the Grossmont Foothillers that included pounding fourteen hits led to an 8-5 victory over the visiting Point Loma Pointers in non-league action on Monday afternoon.
An RBI single by Katelynn Parent (1-3, 2 RBI, R) that brought Natalie Emery (2-2, 3 R) home would tie the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning which was followed by an RBI double by Caitlyn Potts (1-3, R, RBI, 2B) that brought home Jade Daley (3-4, R, 2 RBI, 3 2B) would give them a 2-1 lead.
Later in the inning, the Foothillers added a couple of more runs when Isabel Cervantes (3-4, 2 RBI, 2B) knocked in both Parent and Potts on a double to left field which made it 4-1.
Grossmont added a fifth run in the bottom of the second inning when Daley doubled in Emery.
Ashley Beard (3-4, R, RBI, 2B) drove in a run in the bottom of the third inning to make it 6-2, and later in the bottom of the fifth inning, Daley again drove in Emery when she doubled to center field which was followed by a sacrifice fly by Parent that allowed Beard to come in to score to extend the lead to 8-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Dezirae Miller earned the victory for Grossmont as she allowed five runs on twelve hits over seven innings, striking out three and walking one.
El Capitan 9, Westview 1
DEL SUR (3-7-22) – On Monday afternoon the El Capitan Vaqueros traveled up to the North County and easily came away with the convincing win against the Westview Wolverines in non-league play.
El Capitan would start things off in the top of the first inning when Ava Gall (2-3, 3 RBI) drove in both Alyssa Fierro (2-4, 2 R) and Dom Garcia (1-5, R) which was followed later in the inning by an RBI base hit by Maddie Taylor (2-4, 2 R, 2B) to make it 3-0.
They would extend their lead even further in the top of the second inning when Gall drove in Peyton Wells ( 3-4, 2 R, RBI, 2B, HR) and Jojo Christiaens ( 3-4, R, 3 RBI, 2B, 3B) would clear the bases with a double to extend it even further at 7-0. Scoring on the double were Fierro, Hailey Mulligan, and Reese Danczak.
Later in the top of the fourth inning, the Vaqueros behind an RBI double by Taylor would lead 8-0 and in the top of the fifth inning, Wells would lead off with a solo home run.
Wells, besides her day at the plat,e picked up the win in the circle as she went six innings in which she allowed a run on two hits while walking one and striking out four on the day.
Olympian 5, West Hills 3
SANTEE (3-7-22) – Olympian’s Alyssa Gross with the Eagles only leading by a run in the top of the fifth would drive in a run to put the Eagles up for good on Monday afternoon.
The Eagles would early on lead 1-0 when Katie Steinmetz drove in Gross on a single to center field in the top of the first inning. However, the Wolf Pack came right back as Emily Byrd would knock in Amaya Angeli (RUN) on a sacrifice fly to right field to tie the score at 1-1.
Gross would give the Eagles a 2-1 lead in the top of the second with her double right field.
West Hills now trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning would cut things closer as Naomi Kai (1-3, RBI) would knock in Byrd on a base hit to left field to make it 3-2.
However, the Eagles with two outs in the top of the fifth inning would add another run to make it 4-2. They would add another run to lead 5-2.
But the Wolf Pack wouldn’t go away as Lily Youngdale (1-3, R, RBI, HR) in the bottom of the sixth would belt a solo home run to pull within 5-3.
Also contributing to the Wolf Pack was Alyssa Thornton who had a pair of hits on the day.
Ramona 4, Patrick Henry 3
RAMONA (3-7-22) – The Ramona Bulldogs would trail by a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and would push across a pair of runs to take the victory on Monday.
Ramona would lead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning but Patrick Henry would push across a run to tie the game up at 1-1.
Another lead change in the bottom half of the inning as the Bulldogs scored again to retake the lead 2-1.
However, the Patriots would answer back with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to retake the lead 3-2.
Chloe Wilson for Patrick Henry would hit a solo home run as she went 1-for-3, her teammate Emily Hanna would drive in a pair of runs on the day with a two-run blast. Also, contributing were Maura Evans who also scored a run, McKenna Gieger, and Savannah Sutton who all had hits.
Zoe Rutherford took the loss for the Patriots, she went five innings in which she allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out five on the day.
Mar Vista 9, Christian 4
EL CAJON (3-7-22) – Six runs by the Mar Vista Mariners in the first inning was all they needed as they stymied the bats of the Patriots on Monday.
Christian’s runs would come in the bottom of the sixth inning when both Rachel Stephens and Allyson Moody would belt two-run home runs. Stephens blast would be hit over the center-field fence while Moody would hit hers over the left-field fence.
Scoring on both home runs were Tyler Krystek and Kate Manes who also doubled in the inning.
Ashley Wood and Kaitlyn Moody would also contribute hits for the Patriots.
Rancho Bernardo 2, Granite Hills 1
RANCHO BERNARDO (3-7-22) – With the score tied at 1-1 the Rancho Bernardo Broncos would come away with the walk-off victory when they would garner a one-out RBI single on Monday afternoon.
Both teams pitching was strong as they went back and forth but unfortunately, Chloe Knepp took the loss for Granite Hills. She went six and third innings, allowing two runs n six hits and striking out one on the day.
Knepp, Taylor Rose who drove in Breanna Diaz in the fifth inning, and Diaz herself all had hits for the Eagles.
