2022 EAST COUNTY PREP SOFTBALL

EL CENTRO (3-1-22) —- Coming off a heartbreaking loss to Mission Hills in the Platinum Championship game of the Cougar Classic, the Valhalla Norsemen bounced back with a big road win, 6-2 over El Centro-Southwest to open the Hilltop Tournament on Monday (Mar. 1).
Valhalla would procure the victory as they pushed across five runs in the top of the seventh inning. Driving the inning was McKayla Fish (1-2, 2 RBI) who singled in both Alaya Chapa (RUN) and Avery Voth (2 R) which was followed by a two-run double by Naomi Villava (1-4, 2 RBI, 2B) scoring both Voth and Brooke Tucci (RUN).
Earlier in the game in the top of the first inning, the Norsemen would put two runs on the board courtesy of a two-run homer over the center-field fence by Cadyn Ruffer (3-4, 2R, 2 RBI, 2B, HR). Scoring on the home run was Maryn Jordan (2-3, R, 2B) who led the game off with a walk.
Trailing 2-0 Southwest EC would tie the game in the bottom of the second inning with a two-out rally courtesy of an RBI double and an RBI single.
With the score tied at 2-2 in the top of the sixth inning Valhalla courtesy of an error off a hard hit ball by Naomi Villalva would take a 3-2 lead when Voth raced home on the miscue.
Fish would pick up the win for the Norsemen as she in her three innings of work would allow no runs on no hits while striking out four and walking one, Lily Alvarado started the game for Valhalla and went four innings allowing two runs on five hits while striking out two.
With the win, the Norsemen improve to 6-1 on the season and will travel to Lakeside on Thursday to take on the El Capitan Vaqueros.
