SPRING VALLEY (12-3-15) – Three members of the Mount Miguel girls basketball team achieved career scoring highs in Wednesday (Dec. 2) opening round of the Matador Classic as host Mount Miguel mauled Montgomery 72-43.
SATERA BATES knocked down 25 points, including 10 field goals as the Matadors outscored the Eagles across the board.
CAMARA DOUGLAS executed a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Matadors.
AMBER HARD chipped in with a personal best of 12 points and garnered 5 steals, as did point guard LAILA SMITH. A sparky sophomore guard, Smith came one point short of a triple-double with 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 9 rebounds.
“It’s not often that you have three players reaching their personal scoring highs in the same game,” Mount Miguel coach ROBBIE SANDOVAL noted. “But we have so many new players it’s not unbelievable.”
Leading 38-26 at intermission, the Matadors clamped their defensive break on the visiting Aztecs to turn the game into a rout.
“Our second half defense was much better and allowed us to settle into the game,” Sandoval said.
