EL CAJON — The El Cajon Valley Braves girls varsity basketball team defeated Palo Verde Valley 55-40, in a tournament game on Wednesday at El Cajon Valley High.
Two Braves stars combined to outscore the Yellow Jackets.
Junior Aniah Deloatch scored 23 points to lead El Cajon Valley. She also had six rebounds and six steals.
Junior Ruth Taulanga finished with 21 points for the Braves. She also wrestled down 10 rebounds.
The Braves improved to 7-7 overall, while PVV is 6-9.
LIBERTY CHARTER 39, PALO VERDE VALLEY 28 — The Lions won as the Yellow Jackets played a pair of games at the El Cajon tourney, both resulting in losses.
Senior Izzy Woodhams and freshman Jordan Dillon both scored 13 points for the Lions.
Sophomore Gabby Pro made a three-pointer for Liberty.
Dillon had five steals.
GROSSMONT 62, UNIVERSITY CITY 16 — The Foothillers are finally starting to get some attention for their 6-0 start. Their presence has been largely under-the-radar thus far.
Grossmont defeated the Centurions at the Bucs Bay Classic.
Grossmont led 18-2 after the first quarter.
UC is winless in 10 starts.
VICTORY CHRISTIAN 49, EL CAPITAN 22 – The Knights knocked off the Vaqueros in Lakeside on Wednesday.
El Capitan was sluggish early, trailing 17-3 at the end of the first quarter.
El Cap, which fell to 5-9, trailed 12-0 before hitting a three.
SAN DIEGO 39, VALHALLA 20 — The Cavers knocked off the Lady Norsemen by nearly double the score on Wednesday.
Junior Rae Reyes and freshman Ava Miles combined for 14 of Valhalla’s points.
Valhalla fell to 5-8.
The Cavers are the top-rated team in Division IV and are now 11-6 overall.
