SANTEE (12-4-2021) – Keep playing, keep fighting, and the win will come, and boy did it.

Talk about turning things around in a hurry, maybe just a matter of shaking off a little of the rust, after all, it is amazing what a win will do, especially for morale.

Ironically enough, the Granite  Hills Eagles, just down the street, had just been out to Brawley for a visit, and a shellacking of the Wildcats this past Thursday, 57-36.

Possibly head coach Dan Duffy and Tim Brown shared some tips on how to best exploit the Wildcat weaknesses, in addition to the film, of course.

The Patriots came out firing on all cylinders, the best first quarter of the young season thus far, leading 21-3 at the end of the first quarter, but it was once again a stellar performance on behalf of the defense once again, but eased up on offense in the second quarter, losing by three, 13-10, in the second quarter.

Minab Mesghenna was the leading scorer for the Patriots in the first half, with 2-for-2 from the line, a three-pointer, and two field goals.

The score at the end of the half was 31-16, Christian.

Christian’s defense held the Wildcats to 15 points in the second half and put up 32 offensive points of their own to take care of the visiting Wildcats, 63-31, at Santana High.

Patrick Perez would lead the Patriots in offensive points scored with 15 total, seven field goals, 1-for-3 from the line, and even better, 10 rebounds, two steals, and one assist.

Ben Felice had seven offensive total points, a three-pointer, two field goals, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

“I think we were just lacking on the offensive side, but we are working on it, so come time for the next couple of games we should be better as a team. This game we just won was more of a recovery game after those losses and should give us momentum coming into Sage Creek. “ said Perez. “Our team is still coming together, learning how we play, and taking each game as a learning experience. We are eager to learn from our mistakes from those games and work on them in practice. We had some faults in our offense, and we have identified those problems and are ready to fix them.”

“Today, after some good practices we wanted to make a statement this game, and be able to execute on our offense, adapt to anything the defense gives us. It was not a perfect game, and we still have a lot to work on, but we were excited to get the win,” said Minab Mesghenna.

Coming up next for the Patriots (1-3) will be at Sage Creek (0-3) on Tuesday, December 7, at 7 p.m.
