Patriot scores rattle Canyon Hills early

EL CAJON – The Christian Patriots scored all of their points in the first half and won their first Eastern League game of the season by defeating the Canyon Hills Rattlers, 32-6, at Valley Stadium on Friday night.
Junior quarterback Jake Davila passed for two touchdowns and ran for another for Christian.
Kayvion Jones rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown for the Patriots, as well.
Nate Bettis had over 100 yards of total offense for the Patriots.
Christian had four sacks of the Rattlers’ quarterback.
Shane Bailey led the Patriot defense with four tackles.
Hunter Provience also brought in a touchdown reception for CHS in the final minute of the first half.
“We went out there and dominated on the field,” Provience said. “We all gave it our all in the beginning so the rest of our team could get in. It was a fun game to play.”
J.C. Gustin scored the game’s first touchdown with a 20-yard score on a short toss from Davila, who played with a cast on his left wrist.
“The cast didn’t slow him down at all,” Gustin said. “He was the same Jake the Snake. He was slinging it and running like he has been all season.
Davila’s rushing score came just over two minutes into the second quarter
Davila passed for 165 yards in the contest. He has over 1,850 yards of total offense this season.
Just past the midway point of the second quarter, Jones scored on a 24-yard run.
Canyon Hills (1-7, 0-3 Eastern) scored in the fourth quarter.
Christian High will never know if they could match up with Eastern League champion Mira Mesa.
The Patriots will fall short of their goal of a league title because their game with the Mauraders with canceled due to health protocols.
Should the Patriots defeat Point Loma on Friday, they would end the regular season with a 2-1 Eastern League record. Mira Mesa finished the regular season with a 3-0 league record and will be declared the well-deserved champion.
The Patriots’ matchup with the Pointers this week pits pal coaches Dan Mitchell, of Christian, and Joel Allen, of Pt. Loma. Both played at Christian High, as well.
Christian (5-3, 1-1 Eastern) currently sits in seventh in the San Diego CIF Division III power rankings and is likely headed to a first-round home game following next week’s season finale, which will be played at the Pointers’ field.
The Pointers, meanwhile, are battling for a playoff berth. A win guarantees a postseason bid in Division III, while a loss would put Pt. Loma in a wait-and-see situation following the game.
