COSTA MESA —- Orange Coast College announced that Saturday’s community college football game against visiting Grossmont College at Lebard Stadium has been postponed.

No reason was given in the announcement made by Jason Kehler, the Pirates’ Director of Athletics.

However, the game was rescheduled for Nov. 9, the SCFA announced on Saturday.

Both Grossmont and Orange Coast were coming off disappointing setbacks in their Week 1 openers, as both sides managing just a single touchdown.

Both sides will be on the road in Week 3 (Sat., Sept. 18). Grossmont will travel to Azusa to meet the Citrus College Owls; OCC will head to the historic cliff-side stadium that faces the Pacific Ocean to tangle with the Santa Barbara City College Vaqueros. Both kickoff at 6 p.m.

No. 7 CANYONS at No. 24 SOUTHWESTERN – The Jaguars are ranked 24th for the second consecutive week but Canyons is highly-ranked and the Jaguars will have to produce more offense this week than they did against Grossmont in order to pull off the home upset.

Canyons quarterback Colton Doyle threw for close to 300 yards with three touchdowns in an opening win over Antelope Valley, 47-7. Receiver Tiquan Gilmore had nearly 200 of the receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Southwestern won in the final stages against the Griffins as sophomore Christian Jourdain hauled in a touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Stevie Orr.

Southwestern’s defense limited the Griffins that in part to freshman Jaheem Williams, out of Montgomery High. The former South Bay defensive player of the year had two sacks, two defended passes, and nine tackles in his junior college debut.

The Jaguars had five sacks for the game. If Southwestern can produce more offense, it can produce a possible upset.

No. 16 SAN DIEGO MESA at No. 2 VENTURA – A great test for Mesa following last week’s convincing win over West L.A. when they travel to face Ventura.

Mesa moved up three spots to No. 16 this week following its shutout victory.

Former Helix Highlander Blaze Zito recovered two fumbles in the first half, including one for a scoop-and-score touchdown.

Junior Akintunde, out of Steele Canyon, had an interception and a defended pass for the Olympians, while freshman Zo Cuero, out of Granite Hills, had three tackles, including one for loss.

Ventura received a couple of first-place votes in the poll this week after a 62-5 win over Moorpark, in which it produced over 500 yards.

No. 19 GOLDEN WEST at No. 28 PALOMAR – The Comets were tied for 28th in this week’s poll. The home field may be enough to allow the Comets to pick up this victory.

The Comets defeated Victor Valley in their home opener last week behind two touchdown passes from freshman quarterback Zeke Payne.

Freshman Ricky Davis Jr. had two interceptions for the Palomar defense, which had four picks overall, while sophomore Sid Weddington expectedly led the way with seven tackles.

The Rustlers had a road win 24-7 at Orange Coast last Saturday as quarterback Jake Reztlaff rushed for three touchdowns.
