Horn, Vaqueros roll; Sultans have balance

2021 EAST COUNTY PREP SOFTBALL

LAKESIDE – El Capitan Vaqueros (11-5, 3-0 GVL) ace Brooke Horn strikes out ten while only allowing one hit in her six innings of work in the 10-0 victory over Monte Vista (2-13, 0-3 GVL) on Friday (May 14).
Not only was the pitching spot on but the bats provided the offense starting with Ava Gall (2-4, 2 R, RBI, 2 3B) and her RBI triple in the bottom of the third inning that scored Alyssa Fierro (2-3, R) to make it 1-0, she would come into score when Katy Hicks (1-2, 2 R, 2 RBI) hit a fly ball to left field to make it 2-0.
An RBI single by Maddie Taylor (1-2, 2 R, RBI) followed by a later JoJo Christiaens (3-4, R, 2 R, 2B, 3B) two-run single that plated both Taylor and Hicks and advanced Horn to third would make it 5-0, she would trot home on a base hit by Alex Burrough (2-2, 2 RBI, SB) to make it 6-0.
The Vaqueros would finish their scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning starting with an RBI double by Hicks that plated Taylor, the next batter Horn singled in Hicks, later Burrough drove in Christiaens and Dom Garcia on a fielder’s choice drove in Brooklyn Fukushima.
Monte Vista’s lone hit by Raimey came in the top of the fifth inning.
Santana 13, Mount Miguel 3
SPRING VALLEY – Nine runs scored by the Santana Sultans (16-6, 3-0 GVL) over the final three innings lead to a convincing victory over the Mount Miguel Matadors (4-9-1, 1-2 GVL) on Friday (May 14).
An early RBI single by Kassidy Harper that scored Sammi Sullivan would make it 1-0, they would add another run when Isabella Cyman scored on an error, and later Harper scored when Hailey Phillips drew a walk.
Santana would extend their lead to 4-0 in the top of the second inning on a double by Harper that brought home, Sullivan.
But the Matadors would scratch a run back in the bottom of the inning when Sami Jelowdar hit a ground ball out to score Roanna Riggins to make it 4-1.
Mount Miguel would add two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run triple by Alex Schneider to pull them within 4-3.
Not panicking the Sultans went to business in the top of the fifth inning and extended their lead thanks to a two-run single by Anyssa Mazon that plated both Kylee Ruiz and Madison Jordan.
Lainie Brown would drive in a pair of runs for the Sultans in the top of the sixth inning to make it 9-3.
They would tack on their final three runs courtesy of an RBI single by Kaitlyn Ours, a two-run single by Ashtyn Niemiec, and a sacrifice fly by Natalie Sims.
