CHULA VISTA – The home team Bonita Vista Barons (8-4) pounded out fourteen hits as they got the best of the visiting Granite Hills Eagles (4-9-1) 6-2 on Thursday afternoon.
An RBI single in the bottom of the first inning by Alexis Guevara got the Barons on the board 1-0 early on and a couple of batters later they would add another run to take a 2-0 lead.
But the Eagles would find themselves with some momentum in the top of the third inning as Sofia Mujica blasted a two-run home-run over the left-field fence to tie the game at 2-2. Mujica’s home run was not only her Eastcounty leading eighth of the season but her total also leads all of San Diego according to MaxPreps.
But any momentum the Eagles had was quickly taken away in the bottom of the inning thanks to two runs by the Barons as they retook the lead 4-2. They would later add a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to round out their scoring.
For the Eagles, Paige Baird had a pair of hits on the day including a double and Kiki Sandoval had a base hit and scored on the home run by Mujica.
Pitching wise starter Chloe Knepp took the loss as she worked all six innings in which she allowed six runs on fourteen hits while striking out one.
On the other side for the Barons, Giulianna Clavel surrendered two runs on three hits over her four innings of work and struck out six to garner the victory.
SAN MARCOS 8, GROSSMONT 1 – Brooke Hessick’s big day at the plate that included a three-run home-run helped the San Marcos Knights to an 8-1 victory over Grossmont on Thursday afternoon.
San Marcos in the top of the fourth inning would extend their lead to 4-0 when Hessick blasted a two-out three-run home-run over the center-field fence.
The Foothillers would score their only run of the contest in the bottom of the third inning when Alexis Fleischer drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Kimmy Bond who had singled earlier in the inning.
The Knights would score their final runs over the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to finish things out.
For Grossmont, the offense was led by Bond, Jade Daley, Natalie Emery, and Fleischer who all had one hit.
Picking up the win for the Knights was Bella Russo who surrendered one run on three hits in her three innings of work. She also struck out two. Kelsey Tadlock came into the game in relief and was able to pick up the save as she recorded the last twelve outs of the contest.
Caitlyn Potts took the loss for the Foothillers. She allowed eight runs on twelve hits over seven innings while striking out nine on the day.
