Eagles make most of long trip with split

Game One

Brawley 7, Granite Hills 3

EL CENTRO (4-24-21) A four-run sixth inning by the Brawley Wildcats sunk the visiting Granite Hills Eagles’ comeback bid to procure a 7-3 victory in game one of a scheduled doubleheader on Saturday.

Brawley (5-7) scored their first run in the bottom of the first inning when Caryn Aguilar doubled to left field bringing in Tamara Carranza to make it 1-0.

They would later add another run on a solo home run by Carranza to make it 2-0.

Sofia Mujica (2-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 HR) of the Eagles in the top of the fourth inning would bring them within 2-1 when she blasted a solo home run over the center-field fence for her fourth of the season.

Brawley would add another run in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead.

Granites’ Mujica would blast her fifth home run of the season of the top of the sixth inning to pull the Eagles within 3-2.

However, the momentum would be short-lived as the Wild Cats would score four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 7-2.

Granite Hills (2-8-1) would score one more run in the top of the seventh when Casillas (1-3, RBI) drove in Paige Baird (1-3, R).

 

Game Two

Granite Hills 13, Brawley 6

EL CENTRO (4-24-21)What a difference a couple of hours made as the Granite Hills Eagles turned up their offense to the tune of fifteen hits which led to a thirteen-run outburst and a victory to split the doubleheader.

Kayla Fox drove in a pair of runs and had three hits on the day and Paige Baird had a big day at the plate as well driving in four runs and a pair of hits which included her first home run of the season.

Also contributing for the Eagles was Sofia Mujica who continued from the first game as she blasted her sixth home run of the season to go with her pair of hits and runs scored, both her and Chloe Knepp who also had a pair of hits and RBIs on the day would double in the game.

Granite Hills would also receive a big contribution from Breanna Diaz who tallied three hits, scored a run, and drove in a run.

Knepp also got the starting nod and picked up the win as she went five innings in which she gave up four runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out two on the day.
