PACIFIC BEACH – Santana Sultans pitcher Joey Barkhimer (2-4, R, 2 RBI, 2B, HR) spun a two-hit gem and struck out twelve batters along with helping her own cause in the 10-0 victory over previously unbeaten Mission Bay in the Slugger Madness semifinals on Saturday (Apr. 17)
Sammi Sullivan (2-4, 2 RBI, SB) for the Sultans in the top of the second inning drove in Natalie Sims (4-4, 4R, 2 RBI, SB, HR) to give them a 1-0 lead.
The Sultans (8-3) tack onto their slim lead in the top of the third inning when Hailey Oceguera (1-2, R, RBI, SB) walked which scored Isabella Cyman (RUN), Sullivan followed with another base hit to bring in Jordyn Beatty (2R, SB) and Sims scored on a misplayed ball by Mission Bay.
Moving to the top of the fifth inning and leading 4-0 Santana would add three more runs. Leadoff hitter Barkhimer would double, Anyssa Mazon (run) came in to run, the next batter Sims would crush the offering over the right field fence for the two-run blast, following the homerun Oceguera singled, she would later score with two outs on another error by Mission Bay (7-1)
Santana would add more runs in the top of the sixth inning courtesy of a two-run home run by Barkhimer and Sims scoring on a wild pitch to round things out.
Both home runs by Barkhimer and Sims were their second on the season.
The win by the Sultans was their fifth in a row.
