MARANATHA CHRISTIAN 60, WEST HILLS 47 – The Wolf Pack led 16-11 early but likely Division IV favorite Maranatha assumed control from there.
West Hills pulled to within six in the fourth quarter with under three minutes to play.
“They are the best defensive team we’ve seen and took us out of our rhythm,” West Hills head coach Tim Barry said. “We have to be better with shot selection. We have to be patient on offense and stop forcing shots.”
West Hills led 8-4 in the first quarter
“Their big (6-foot-9 junior) Aiden Parsons just wore us down,” Barry said “I am really proud of the boys though, they showed some fight to bounce back being down 14 but could not make it all the way back.
“Maranatha played really fundamentally sound man defense and it was a good growth game for us to play out of conference against a team like that.”
Kyle Dobyns, playing double duty again with the baseball team earlier in the day (leaving early to make the road trip drive), finished with 20 points, 10 coming in the fourth quarter rally.
Three other West Hills players, including triple-sport man Brendan Greene, finished with nine points each.
Greene participated in football practice for one hour at 2:30, then went to participate with the track and field team until 6, then boarded a bus for the 7:45 game at Maranatha, which is near 4S Ranch.
