Curtis brings successful track record back to El Cap

LAKESIDE (11-03-15) — DARIN CURTIS has returned to the Grossmont Conference coaching circle as he has taken the El Capitan girls varsity basketball post.

The 48-year old Curtis, who directed traffic for the Vaqueros girls teams for five seasons, is looking forward to his return to the sidelines.

“I came back because I love the game and love the kids,” Curtis said. “I’m looking forward to getting back into it.”

In his first tenure at El Capitan Curtis registered 20 victories in four or more of his five seasons, finishing his stellar career with an overall record of 104-47 (.689).

“I knew I’d never coach anywhere else,” Curtis said. “El Capitan is my home. I had other offers but I never wanted to go elsewhere. I always knew I’d come back to it.”

Presently Curtis serves as the Associated Student Body director and Physical Education instructor at Tierra Del Sol middle school. He is also the public address announcer for Vaqueros football.

He welcomes three returning veterans to the basketball team in VALERIE RENFROW, GRACE BURKETT and MARIE COOK.

“Surely I missed it and I’m excited about being back at El Cap,” he said. “We’ll be rebuilding but you have to start somewhere.

JESSICA CABLE, who earlier accepted the job of varsity coach, will serve as the junior varsity skipper for Curtis.
