Two-sport stars lead Wolf Pack to win

SPRING VALLEY – The athletes playing two sports this year are having a great time this spring. They are also having great success.

West Hills Wolf Pack’s Kyle Dobyns, a standout on the baseball diamond and the basketball court, led the team with 22 points on Wednesday, while teammate Brendan Greene, a major contributor on the court, as well a two-way star on the gridiron, scored 19 points, to help lead the squad to a 58-49 win at Monte Vista.

The CIF is allowing for athletes to pull double-duty – a Bo Jackson, or a Deion Sanders, so to speak, and some are doing it with aplomb.

The Wolf Pack and Monarchs were tied at halftime at 31 but Green had a three-pointer in the third quarter to help West Hills take a four-point lead into the fourth, then Green and Dobyns combined to score nine points in the fourth quarter.

Monte Vista’s Brandon Tully was a handful early but West Hills slowed him in the second half. Tully finished with 20 points, including a pair of three-pointers in the first half. Tully also had 11 rebounds and three steals.

Sophomore Luke Gibson added four points in the fourth for the Pack.

“Luke was our unsung hero of the night,” West Hills head coach Tim Barry said. “He and Brendan did a nice job to try and limit (Monte Vista head coach) Mike Tully’s son. He is a really good player and we had concerns he could take over the game.”

Jayvion Burke had eight points and 11 rebounds for the Monarchs.
