2021 SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN HAWKS MEN’S BASKETBALL
SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN 85, BETHESDA 63
ECS staff report
SANTA CLARITA —- Following a long, difficult season resulting in just a single victory — it came in overtime, to boot — when San Diego Christian College agreed to play in the re-scheduled The Master’s University men’s basketball tournament, head coach Dwayne Cosby decided to simply let his Hawks play.
Sometimes, simply rolling the ball on the court, then sit back and watch is a good thing.
On Friday (Mar. 12), San Diego Christian senior guard Teyden Gause poured in a career-high 43 points, fueling the Hawks to a shocking 85-63 triumph over Bethesda University of California at MacArthur Center.
Teyden’s previous season-best was 29 when the Hawks posted their only other victory, a 90-88 overtime decision over Life Pacific in San Dimas back on Jan. 30.
In addition, Gause’s 43 is the top individual performance by any Golden State Athletic Conference player this season. He topped the Mark of 38 set by Westmont’s Jared Brown in a Feb.26 win over Hope International.
Only once all season had Gause taken more than 20 shots in a contest. But against the Flames (4-11), he pulled the trigger 30 times, draining 16 from the field including 8-of-14 from beyond the arc to snap the ballclub’s 7-game losing streak.
Gause collected 16 points in the first half, then erupted for 27 more after the intermission, nearly single-handily outscoring Bethesda (29) over the final 20 minutes.
The effort also raised Gause’s season average from 17.9 to 19.4 points per outing.
Special performance by a Special young Man @TOPENDTEYDEN. Keeping adding chapters to novel. Tonight's performance up there with one of the top CHC/@SDChristianColl individual performances ever. #chapter43

Greg Chew also reached double figures with 12 points and he grabbed 14 rebounds. Cameron Dashiell was also in double figures scoring with 10.
For Bethesda, guard Justin Clark led the Flames with 19 points.
San Diego Christian (2-15) will face the host Mustangs in the championship game Saturday at 7 p.m. to complete the 2020-21 campaign.
