Norsemen combine on no-no versus Dons

SAN DIEGO – Valhalla seniors Joseph Ingrassia and Luke Clark combined on a no-hitter as the Norsemen knocked off the seventh-ranked Cathedral Catholic Dons, 5-3, in the GMC Tournament on Wednesday.
The Dons scored three in the last of the fourth to assume the lead, but the Norsemen came back with three of their own in the top of the fifth.
Valhalla scored two in the six to take the lead.
Ingrassia went five innings, allowing three runs while striking out 10. He walked six.
For Ingrassia, already the first East County pitcher to throw two career complete-game no-hitters in 35 years, it was the third no-no he has been a part of.
Clark pitched two innings to get the win, striking out a pair.
Senior Luke Clark doubled and drove in a pair of runs for the Norsemen to tie the game at 3-all in the fifth.
Senior Kyle Casper had two hits, including a double, drove in a run and scored a run for the Norse.
Senior Ryan Perot added a hit, two walks and an RBI for Valhalla.
Ingrassia scored a pair of runs and had an RBI.
POINT LOMA 1, GROSSMONT 0 – The 10th-ranked Point Loma Pointers beat the eighth-ranked Grossmont Foohillers, 1-0, on a walk-off error.
Junior Evan Vasiliou pitched six shutout innings, allowing four hits while striking out four.
“I thought it was a pretty good high school baseball game,” Grossmont head coach Jordan Abruzzo said. “Evan pitched great and gave us a chance to win.
“We had our chances but we just didn’t get it done. That’s life. We’ll be at practice tomorrow ready to go.”
Seniors Stephen Frey and Brodie Romero had two hits for Grossmont, as did junior Isaiah Gomez.
Grossmont fell to 4-3. Point Loma is 6-1.
MADISON 4, GRANITE HILLS 1 – The Warhawks won the tournament game on Wednesday against the host Eagles.
Reliever Eric Hogan pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit, for the Eagles.
Alex Gilbaud had a pair of hits and scored the Eagle run.
Grant MacArthur had a hit and drew a pair of walks.
Granite Hills fell to 3-4.
