ESCONDIDO – The second-ranked Granite Hills Eagles won their fifth straight game, defeating the Poway Titans, 1-0, in the Cougar Classic quarterfinals at Kit Carson Park on Saturday.
Staci Chambers pitched a shutout for the second consecutive game, twirling a three-hitter with five strikeouts and no walks.
Haley Johnson had a solo home run for the game’s only score.
Senior Bailey Wallace had a pair of hits for Granite Hills.
The Eagles improved to 6-1 overall.
SANTANA 4, SCRIPPS RANCH 0 (5 inn.) – The unranked Sultans put up a four-run first and won at the Cougar Classic over the fifth-ranked Falcons as Joey Barkhimer pitched her second no-hitter of the week.
Barkhimer had a pair of strikeouts.
Samantha Sullivan had two hits, including a triple and drove in a pair of runs.
Taylinn Warren singled and scored for Santana.
Lakaila Aguiningoc-David singled, scored, and drove in a run for the Sultans.
GROSSMONT 1, WEST HILLS 0 – The Foothillers won the matchup between Grossmont Conference foes at the Cougar Classic’s Silver Bracket quarterfinals.
Caiti Potts, a freshman, recorded the pitching shutout, going five innings while walking just one.
Kati Contreras singled and drove in the game’s only run, scoring Natalie Emery in the fourth.
VALHALLA 10, OCEANSIDE 3 – The Lady Norsemen advanced in the Bronze Division at the Cougar Classic with a win over Oceanside.
Senior Bailey Munch homered and had three RBI for Valhalla.
Junior Abagail Johnston had two hits, scored a run, and drove in one for Valhalla.
Sophomore Maryn Jordan had a hit, scored two runs, and drove one in for the Norse.
Freshman Allie Piscopo doubled, scored a run, and had an RBI for the Norsemen.
Naomi Villalva pitched three innings, allowing one run, with no walks and two strikeouts.
STEELE CANYON 4, MT. CARMEL 3 – Steele Canyon moved into the Copper Division championship game be edged the Sundevils at the Cougar Classic on Saturday.
The Cougars won with a run in bottom of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Bianca Morales.
Emma Shellstrom went six innings, striking out five and walking just one for Steele.
Freshman Jazmin Williams had two hits, including a solo home run. She scored two runs.
Sophomore Madison Villaescusa had a hut, drove in a run, and scored once for the Cougars.
Junior Taylor Thomas had two hits for SC, including a triple.
MAR VISTA 4, HELIX 0 – The Highlanders fell to the Mariners on Saturday at the Gold & Silver Tournament semifinals at Helix High.
Junior Audrey Kull had a pair of hits to lead the Lady Highlanders.
