EL CAJON – The Foothills Christian Knights got back to their winning ways with a 69-59 win over the visiting Army-Navy Warriors on Saturday night at Cuyamaca College.
For the Knights, who improved to 6-1 in Coastal League play, the win snapped a two-game losing streak.
On Monday, Foothills Christian tumbled from atop the local media poll to fourth in the latest panel rankings, behind top-ranked Cathedral Catholic, No. 2 St. Augustine, and new No. 3 Torrey Pines, which knocked the Knights from the top triumvirate, which have jostled up-and-down the top three for the last two months.
No scoring information was available.
Foothills Christian is now 15-7 overall.
The Knights return to Coastal League action on Wednesday when they face ninth-ranked Santa Fe Christian in a high-profile matchup in Solana Beach.
The Eagles are 4-2 in the Coastal League but will likely need the win in order to have a chance to stay with Foothills and first-place Francis Parker in the league race.
The Lancers moved up to fifth in the latest poll and are the county’s hottest team, with 11 consecutive wins.
MOUNT MIGUEL 70, CRAWFORD 44 – The Matadors earned their third win of the season by dominating Crawford thanks to a 35-12 first-half advantage.
The Matadors led 21-4 at the end of the first quarter.
Mount Miguel extended the lead to 56-28 at the end of three periods to double up the point total of the Colts.
Crawford fell to 0-17 on the season.
Despite the Matadors’ record, Mount Miguel has already qualified for the postseason as a member of Division I.
MAR VISTA 81, EL CAJON VALLEY 65 – The Mariners defeated the Braves in an afternoon non-league game at El Cajon Valley High on Saturday despite 31 points from El Cajon Valley sophomore Jayden Barnett.
Seniors Isaiah Woodard and Ralph Esto both added 11 points for the Braves.
The Braves made seven three-pointers – four by Barnett and three by Esto.
Woodard led the Braves with nine rebounds, while teammate M.J. Rivera grabbed eight boards and made three steals.
The Braves, which fell to 4-14 overall, trailed just 42-37 at halftime.
El Cajon Valley will travel to Lakeside to face El Capitan (8-11) on Tuesday at 7.
Both teams are looking for their first Grossmont Valley League victory this season.
SWEETWATER 71, STEELE CANYON 58 – The Red Devils bested the Cougars on Saturday after jumping out to a 15-6 lead midway through the first quarter.
Sweetwater led 50-23 at halftime.
Steele Canyon’s Arthur Simpson made a three-pointer, following by a two-point field goal with just over two minutes to go in the third quarter as the Cougars closed to within 56-40.
Chance Stout and Simpson made back-to-back threes in the fourth period that helped whittle a 25-point Sweetwater lead to 65-50 with just over five minutes to play.
The Cougars’ Angel Raposa knocked down a three with just over a minute to play as the Cougars closed to within 68-55.
Steele Canyon fell to 3-13 overall (1-3 Grossmont Hills League) and will play at Grossmont (11-8, 2-2 Grossmont Hills League) on Friday at 7.
