Griffins continue to roll behind Ayala

EL CAJON – The Grossmont College women’s volleyball team defeated MSJC, 25-17, 25-13, 25-13, Wednesday night.

Earlier this week, middle Janelle Ayala was named PCAC honorable mention female athlete of the week.

Ayala, a 5-foot-10 sophomore middle hitter from Hilltop High School, has been a consistent force for Grossmont in the middle all season. Last week she had eight kills with only one error on 12 attempts, hitting .583, in a 25-20, 25-21, 25-13 sweep over Southwestern, and had 7 kills with 0 errors on 14 attempts as the state seventh-ranked Griffins (16-4 overall) swept fourth-place MiraCosta 25-18, 25-23, 25-18.

Last week, Griffins Katie Rademacher and Brooke Callahan accepted full scholarships and committed to D1 Big West Conference school UC Riverside.

Meanwhile, San Diego Mesa swept Cuyamaca on Wednesday, 25-16, 25-12, 25-8.
